2.4 ghz question

this is probably a dumb question, but im ignorant when it comes to electronic stuff...
will any 2.4ghz transmitter and reciever bind with one another?
im buying a new transmitter that i can use with all my cars and was wondering if i need to buy a reciever for each one or if any 2.4 reciever will be okay
