Whats the smoothest and most reliable motor and esc combo?

I have a Viper rc vtx 10 I bought back in the summer and it runs great, wired it up and ran perfectly in a SC10 at a outside track in the Texas heat. If you need a esc with a low turn motor rating the vtx 10r can run 540 and 550 motors down to a 6.5 I think. You can get it with or without the progauge with allows you to program brake, boost, timing etc...

While I've only been in the hobby for 2 months...
... I did my homework and asked a LOT of opinions. I was willing to invest in the best out of the gate, so that I: a) Couldn't blame my equipment, and; b) Wouldn't have to upgrade anytime soon.
I run an FT SC10 2WD, and a FT B4.1 Buggy (a closer match to your 22, obviously). I decided on Tekin RS Pro/7.5T motor combos in both (dialed down to 90% Power to compensate for my lack of driving skill) and went with the Airtronics M11x transmitter (Christmas present from my very cool and lovely wife... thanks, babe).
I also bought a FT SC10 2WD, and outfitted it with the Castle Creations Mamba Max SCT PRO/3800 kv motor (1410) combo and am running the Spektrum DX3R Pro transmitter (to save a little cash). This was for my less discerning sons to run.
I have to say that all 3 vehicles drive amazingly well and can keep up with any guys in the Pro Classes (with a more experienced racer operating them, that is). You can definitely feel more lower end Torque in the Castle system. The Tekin powered cars are just all-around fast and silky smooth. The biggest difference I notice between vehicles is the very slight lag difference between the M11x and the DX3R when steering. While the M11x is only fractions of second quicker... you can feel the difference going to the DX3R. It always takes me a few laps to remember to turn a split-second sooner to achieve the same line.
FYI, for what its worth I am running Savox 1258 TG servos on the trucks and a 1257 TG (slightly less torgue, slightly higher speed) on the buggy.
You certainly can't go wrong going with a Tekin/Airtronics combo... same goes for the Castle Mamba Max System (especially if you are looking to save a few bucks). My only complaint with Tekin is the cheap-a** flimsy wire they run to the receiver. Come on Tekin, for a top-end product, I shouldn't have to worry about the longevity of this wire (it already has a few nicks in it).
One last note... I strongly considered LRP and Orion ESC/Motors. The Viper and Trinity were in the next tier down. I ruled out Orion even though a number of guys online and at the local track feel that they are even smoother than the Tekins, because as a Rookie I wanted service availability. Tekin has an excellent reputation in this area I didn't want to have to deal with a UK-based company as opposed to a US-based one, should something go awry. I also liked all the setup data I was able to quickly find for the Tekins. I chose Tekin over LRP purely because I talked with more Tekin users than LRP and I think I saw a motor poll on this site that showed the same level of loyalty... or may have just been that that red FEELS faster than blue to me.
There's my two cents worth of opinion... will send you a pm with my invoice.
Good luck with whatever system you choose!
