Plz! Help with Propeak Sigma 2 EQ.

HI,

I am new to the forum and happy to be here.

Just got a Propeak Sigma 2 EQ charger today and read the manual that came with it before start charging my Onyx nimh 7.2 4200mah. I have set it on 3a and Auto Mode. when charging it show on the display 3a/8.1v - 8.9v. Which to me seems pretty high and about 40min it finish and notice liquid start coming out of my battery pack. I guess now it's burn.

Any suggestion on how to charge nimh battery, this would help me very much!

Thanks

Charging a 4200mah pack at 3amps shouldn't have caused probs. Did you notice pack was getting hot? Are you sure you got the charger set up right?

If your's vented liquid, it prob got up to 150-160F where pack should never get hotter than 110-115F.

NiMh cells will charge up to close to 1.5v/cell so 8.1 - 8.9v for the pack is not high, that's about where it should be. If pack didn't get real hot (only reason it should vent), this begins to sound like you had a bad pack from the start.

Welcome to RC Tech, btw.....

Thanks so much for your reply Dust_360.

Yes i read the manual before I start charging. The battery pack was really hot when i touch it. I think its the battery as-well. As far as the setting I had it on Auto and 3a. I think from now I will have it on Manual instead of Auto.

Just went to my LHS and pick up a new Hi Energy 7.2v 4500mah nimh. Charge it in Manual mode and everything seems to be good. Kinda suck when the Onyx pack was only a Month old and burn out...:flaming:

Thanks again

You're welcome - sorry, but bad packs happen.

Sounds like you've got it solved with the new pack. Have fun!:D
