sv2 vs. vxl?
Which would you choose? The esc will be powering a tacon 3650 3200kv. I can send in a fried vxl and get a new one for $55 or buy an sv2 for about the same price.
Thanks guys. |
I like the sv2 better myself . There is a lot more adjustments you can do and no what is the voltage cutoff set at for lipos and no sticky buttons.

Neither
Pay $15 more and get a Hobbywing SC8 Cheers |

The SC8 handles more power than the others, its a bargain at its pricepoint
Plenty of people run Hobbywing gear and dont seem to be too bothered about the warranty issues They do have a warranty policy which can be found on their website Cheers |
VXL for me because it will run sensored motors as well as sensorless.. more versitile...
|
VXL ESC is limited in its ability to run a sensored motor as it will not allow changing of any timing
The Hobbywing SCT-Pro (Sensored SC8) will do a much better job Only reason to run a VXL would be its waterproof nature, doesnt come close otherwise Cheers |
I agree, neither. Traxxas brushless esc's are junk (trust me. Between my friends and I we have gone through like 4 of them with simple street bashing most of the time dry as a bone).
I had my sidewinder sct (sv2) and it runs HOT on 2s even with a fan on it. I sent it into castle and am paying $75 to upgrade to a mmp esc. But I think that the hobbywing is a great esc for the money. (all of those vxl esc's got replaced by hobbywings). Oh, also my friend did send in one of those vxl's UNDER WARRANTY and had to pay $55 to have it fixed and it took over 3 months (yeah, months) to get it back. It took weeks after the shipping confirmed that traxxas got the esc even to hear from traxxas. NOT a good experience. |
@ Nerdyrcdriver
What are you running your sv2 in? I am running a Sv2 combo in my slash and it runs nice, cool temps @ OP Go with the SV2 Combo, Much better than the Vxl esc. The vxl esc breaks very easy and Traxxas takes a long time with their warranty. Go with a name brand, I always go with something that has a good warranty and name. Hobbywing is not very Good, their warranty sucks and they sell cheap quality stuff. What would you rather have A Combo with a Good Name/warranty (CASTLE CREATIONS :D) and reputation or A Combo with cheap quality and very low reliablity? |

I was running it in my blitz on 2s with the 1410 4 pole 3800kv motor. (sidewinder sct combo) and it ran HOT and it was geared to run cool. Many people have the same experience. The esc typically runs about 140-160. But I think I solved that issue by upgrading to the mmp. Hobbywing esc's are good and cheap. But if you want name brand you can buy name brand. But if you plan to run 3s or gear for speed, dont look at the sv2. The mmp is a good choice but cost $130. For that price you could buy two hobbywing escs. |
IMO, I'd buy in this oeder:
1) Castle 2) Hobbywing 3) Traxxas (only if I had no other choice) I will say my Mamba Max runs hotter than my hobbywing does. But not to the point that I think its too hot. Without a fan it runs at about 135-140, with a fan 115-120. My hobbywing runs ~110. The mamba max is in a ECX Torment running a 6900Kv castle motor, geared at 19/87 with a 2.6 tranny ratio. The hobbywing 60A is in a Slash running a hobbywing 10T motor geared at 21/86 with a (I think) 2.72 tranny ratio. |

Thanks all for the advice. I ended up finding a used lrp worth the money so I went with that. My motor and esc cost $67 total. If it lives then I'd say that's a pretty good deal.
