acoms 2.4G problems

Hi. I use acoms 2.4G for r/c railway in the garden, very good! BUT I tried to be clever & tried to run tx off a car battery & seem to have knackered it. I suspect a burn out & suspect a write off. I think I've done same to a 2.4G II also.
What a plonker!!!!!!!!!! Any one got any helpful ideas? Ta.
