Thunderpower TP610 error
 

Hi guys,

I just got a Thunder Power TP610 AC/DC charger and a Dynamite Speedpack 5200 50c 2s pack (my first lipo battery ever, just got back into R/C after a 5 year hiatus). On the pack it says 5C charge rate. When I connect my battery and go through the menus and hold the red button for 2 seconds to start charging, I get a "voltage error or wrong polarity" message. The leads are hooked up correctly so it isn't a polarity issue. The battery is plugged into the balancer as well. If anyone has this charger and could walk me through the menus that would be awesome. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong!

I have this charger and love it. With that battery a 5c charge rate is over 25 amps, pretty much overkill. Make sure it's set on lipo mode first. This charger will only put out 10 amps which for your battery is less than 2c charge rate. I haven't been able to get it to put out 10amps running on ac current, when I had it pegged to 10 amps I would get an error message and it would shut down. I just dropped the charge rate to 7.5 amps and it works just fine w no problems. I have been thinking about picking up a dc power supply to run 10 amps but I am satisfied with how it runs. Now if you decide to start charging 4s packs, that's a different story. On ac power you can only charge at 3.7amps due to the wattage required to charge the battery. You would need the dc power supply for that.

I have a power supply that I used with my old chargers. I recently, as of last week, got back into the RC game and am completely lost! What does 5c even mean and how does it translate into charger specs? I got talked into buying a Mugen MBX6 Eco last night while visiting some old racing buddies and now need to buy a couple of 4s packs. Will I need the DC power supply to charge one of those?

Basically what the c rating is when you are talking about charging it, you take the mah of your pack and divide it by 1000. The number you get there is what 1c is. So 1c for your pack is 5.2, if you charge this pack at 1c you are charging at 5.2 amps. So at 5c....you get the picture, over 25 amps. For a 2s pack that is overkill and some tracks even have rules about how many c you can charge your packs at. It can become a huge fire hazard.

Now if you want to charge those 4s packs for your mugen I would definitely get a power supply around 15 amps or more, it will supply better wattage and let you get the amps up for those big batteries. Hope that helps

One other thing to mention is the 1c charge rating ( how many amps ) will change if you change the capacity of the battery. So if you have a 4500mah battery 1c=4.5 amps as an example. The c rating on the battery (50c, 60c, etc) has to do with the discharge current of the pack. The bigger the c rating, the more punch the pack should have...but c ratings on packs are a whole different story.

I have the same problem but it only shows that error for discharging for me
