LiPo Ballooning ~Question~

Yesterday I ran my Traxxas Slash 4x4 (With a 5400mAh 20C 11.1v LiPo) through some water (not much, just a little ditch) and today, after i charged it back up and ran it again, my slash seemed slower and less powerful. I didn't know if it was the battery or the motor. After i took out the battery, it was ballooned ALOT. I followed the directions on the package. I read about what causes this, but I have ran this battery for a while now. I am just wondering why it did that and if it will be ok or not. Thanks

That lipo is toast.
If you far some water on the connecters it could've 'shorted out'.
I woukd safely dispose of that lipo and never run it or charge it again.

Did you over discharge it - what is the low voltage cutoff set for?

If your lipo is puffed to the point its pretty distorted and has expanded such that its not going to fit anymore, you need to get another.

while on this subject. i have a lipo that is already puffed to the point that it may just tear it self up. its now safely outside my house in a metal can with heavy bricks surrounding it just in case it explode. been there for about 12 hours now.

what is the proper way of disposing lipo?

submerge in salted water or short the battery pack. im a little scared to shorten the leads as it may explode in my face.

any advise?

FYI its a 4s 5400mah 40c battery from turnigy
stored the battery at 60% capacity about 1 week ago. and it ballooned today

I made the mistake of also running the battery until it died both times now. I guess I'll just buy another one.

Take a few min and read up on lipos so you'll know how you're supposed to treat them -

As you've just found out, you can't treat them just anyway you want.
