Need a motor recommendation for Stock Class Short Course
As the title implies I'm looking for the best motor/esc setup for my local 2WD Short Course Stock Class. Here's all the relevant info
Class Restrictions
Motor Restrictions: 17.5 OR 2300KV
ESC: Anything ("boost" allowed)
The Track
It's short! The layout changes, but the dimensions are always the same. Here's a video of someone running on the track. - youtube.com/watch?v=3xty1sje2Uw
The Vehicle
A yet to be built SC10 Factory Team Kit
The Budget
I would like to pick up a the combo, using coupons if I can find'em for <= $220 (cheaper is better, but I can spend up to this amount)
So with all that in mind I'm welcome to suggestions!

I would pick up a tekin rs and motor on the used section. Might get a combo for around that price.

I have the same truck and use a Speed Passion GT 2.1Prostock (onsale at their web site for $100) and their 17.5ultransportsman v.2 motor ($30 I think). It's faster then I'm used to and almost as fast (gearing??) on straight as others. I think the newer version motors are faster though, about $70. V2 has no timing newer V.3 does. For the ESC I do recommend the LCD programer.
Their is a thread in electric offroad about Speed Passion that might help if u have any questions about them.
Hope this helps

I think hobby wing is same/similar to SP which might help.

On a track that size you will NOT need a boost/timing advance esc. IMO, saving you some money.......holy crap, and I thought some of the tracks I run on were small!!!!

I have a Viper 17.5T and it has a good amount of torque (compared to my SpeedPassion) and likes to be geared a bit higher. The response is smooth paired with my Novak GTB2. It comes with a 180 day warranty.
You can pick up a combo for about $220. I have seen them FS used here on RCTECH as well. There's one currently for $170 shipped in the FS/FT section.

I suggest the Ezun 60a/17.5 combo (non sensored).

I doubt you'll notice much difference between sensored/sensorless these days but you can get an Xerun 60a/17.5t sensored combo as well.

That Orion vst is a beast. That with any sensored esc (even grab something used) would be fine and within your price range. If you'd rather put more of your money towards the esc and upgrade the motor later (that Orion is pricey) then go with a tekin rs. That esc can make almost any 17.5 seem fast. Either way definitely go sensored on a 17.5.

You might consider the Novak Havoc Pro SC/Ballistic Brushless System 17.5T/2200kV as well. With that track timing adjustments are a pure waste of money. I'm pretty darned sure I can fit a track bigger than that in my back yard, and it's tiny!

go with a hobby wing speed control and motor. its under 150.00
