has anybody tried the hobbyking x-car motors? i just ordered a 8.5 and wondering if it going to be worth $36.00

For 36 bucks might as well give it a go.

From what Ive heard there OK. If you do go down this path please post again with an update of its preformance and how long its lasted.

Ive got the Scanner 13.5 from hk coming, will report back.

Let me know how you go with it, as I have one and I can't get it to stop cogging terribly. Hooked up to a Turnigy trackstar 100a sensored esc and Turnigy 5200mah 30c battery.

Annoying as the cheap ezrun 10t sensorless motor i have puts it to shame with practically no cogging

But as cheap as Ezrun's electronics are there great quality!:nod:

i've run the "cheep" (by cheep i mean realistically priced) and had no issues, more experienced drivers are more picky and don't like the delay or lag, punch or smoothness. when i pull the trigger it goes, good enough for me. the last 2 i had i sold with about 20 runs on them with no issues.

I agree nothing wrong with the EZ-RUN, but I was under the impression the scanner motor was going to be better quality. Plus I wanted to get a 13.5t so I can drop it all into a short course and be within a local clubs guidelines.

Got the motor today. First thing I noticed when I took it out of the package was the smell! It smells like burnt windings....haha.
I'll see if it runs and report back.

Scanner 80A esc and scanner 13.5 motor ran good for 4 minutes before dying. Stay away from this garbage! I should have known better.......

Should I even bother with a return/claim?

I changed my pinion gear to a 23t from a 19t and it seems a little better. Bigger problem was my sensor cable shorting out somehow and smoking up. Hoping it may have been faulty the whole time. Will post again once I get a replacement

I contacted scanner-rc directly and they are sending an updated esc without even seeing the dead one I have. They seem to care about customer service! The sensor cable does seem very thin though. It may need some protection if running in a typical rear mounted 2wd offroad car, its rather exposed to the elements.

hmm, perhaps ill try the same. I only have the scanner powersquare 13.5t motor, but it shouldnt have any problems running through a turnigy trackstar esc. will try and get a hold of a new sensor cable first and test before i get in touch with them.

i recieved the motor today looks fairly decent kinda sucks that in order to adjust timing you have to almost take the motor completely apart i will give a update on how it runs later on today or friday

ok i got it in the truck soldered up started out with a 19t pinion took it down the road :nod::nod:iam in pressed fast as hell for a 8.5 i also backed the timing down one degree just to get a feel for it motor never really got hot just warm i could hold my fingers for at least a minute,all in all so far its worth the money i paid another good thing is it comes with a sensor wire that seems like a quailty wire,and the sensor port on motor is up top out of the way.only bad thing so far is the timing adjust to change it the motor has to be out of the vehicle.
