Thunder AC6 Voltage too high?
I don't know to much about Lipo or batteries in general, so any help here is much appreciated.
I got a Thunder AC6 charger and it seems to be working fine, but I noticed that voltage in the upper right hand corner seems to be too high for the battery. For example, right now I'm charging a Turnigy 5200 7.4v lipo battery, and the voltage in the upper right hand corner of the screen says 8.04 and on the balance screen shows cell one at 3.96 and cell 2 at 3.95. Isn't the batter supposed to only be at 3.7 volts a cell and 7.4v max? If so, am I damaging my battery right now? Or do those numbers that I'm looking at mean something else? It does the same thing with NIMH too. I charged a 6 cell 7.2v NIMH and at the end it read 9.6v in the top right corner of the charger! |
No Lipo is supposed to have 4.2v per cell.... a 2s is really 8.4v fully charged.

Ok awesome! Thank you! So you happen to know the full voltage of and NIMH cell?

Yeah I have the same charger.... it is great. It is pre-set and will alarm when it is fully charged

NiMh full charge voltage varies based on quality, age and condition of the cell, I've seen from the high 1.3v/c to a little over 1.5v/c .
OP - you might want to read up on lipo so you know a little more about what you're dealing with - http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-lipo-batteries.html |
