upgrading ESC?

So I picked up a Spektrum dx3r from a member here and we were talking electronics for a minute. When I got home I was setting it up and fiddling with the settings. I noticed that when I want to go into reverse I have to push the trigger a few times for it to engage the reverse gear. I understand that once is for stop and twice is for reverse but it seems like I have to push the throttle 4 or 5 times for it to work. The light flickers on the ESC so its reading signal, could it be possible that its not sending the signal to go in reverse? Also Would the SXX stock spec v2 be a good upgrade for me? I dont think ill be changing the motor out anytime in the near future...

The car is a b4.1 rtr stock electronics besides the dx3r.

Some ESCs want to see a neutral signal for a full second or longer before they will engage reverse. Try letting it sit there for a second in between the first and second push. I fit still does not work as it should, you might try to re-calibrate the endpoints and check again.

I am not sure if you have the brushed or brushless RTR version, but the SXX ESC will only run sensored type brushless motors. Even if you have the brushless RTR, it comes with a sensorless motor. I would recommend an ESC that will run the motor you have now, plus brushless when it is time to upgrade again. I suggest the Tekin RS.
