ESC and battery questions

1 Attachment(s)
Im running a Havoc 3S/8.5T in a 2wd Slash. Was bashing it today and hit a pallet dead on at pretty much max speed. The truck wasnt damaged but now when I hit the throttle the battery to ESC wires just twitch. Im pretty sure the ESC is gone. Also the battery case is damaged where the wires come out. Should I try to charge it and see what happens? Was going to post a picture of battery but dont know how to. Any help is appreciated.

As long as the wire under the insulation isn't exposed, believe you're all right. Use some tape and repair the damage on the case and see how it reacts to charging. What you're watching for is to see if the lipo swells up when charged.

If it starts to swell, stop charging immed and take the lipo somewhere where it can't cause any damage and leave it for several hours.

My guess is you're going to be ok, just cracked the case. You need to use more ways to restrain the lipo better in your Slash - try using a piece of self adhesive velcro in the tray and on the lipo so it can't move. I use a 1" wide piece the length of the lipo and mine simply don't move under a hard hit preventing any lipo damage.

I thought it was pretty secure-dense foam at both ends and top. but evidently not enough. thanks for the help.

I bought a 25' roll of self adhesive "Industrial Velcro" at Walmart, it was about $25. I use it on just about every lipo I have than runs in a surface RC.

This does a good enough job with a strap or the stock hold down, that I run soft cased lipos (some of them are quite hard...) and don't have trouble.
