shortening servo cable

hey guys i bought my 2 savox servos today and the cables are about as long as the car. i have never shortened serco cables before and i am wondering is it easy to do and is it ok to do or does it effect the servo???

crusey_aus 05-15-2011 12:48 AM

Will not effect the operation of the Servo

With the correct tools (crimp etc..) is a walk in the park

Cheers

not worth it really, just tuck them in the box. the rc8t has a huge box for the receiver.

just did a bunch of connectors last night. Tidy wiring is always nice to have, sometimes even worth it. i know my 1/10 4whl car had no room for looped servo leads. Its all about having the right tool:

I can vouch for its effectiveness. oddly though, it does a much better job crimping connectors from say MPi than hansons own line of connectors.

I do it all the time.Cut the wires to the length that you need and solder em back together. Radio Shack sells some very small diameter heat shrink that works perfect for this.

Your clearly not OCD enough:lol: the above crimper does factory quality crimps. No joke.

$40 for that crimper? LOL! The same one can be had from Summit racing for around $15 I believe, LOL!

Maybe it's the same, maybe not? Any garrantee it will do the same quality crimps? With Cheap import stuff quality is all over the map. 40 bucks is cheap piece of mind that I have accurate enough crimping jaws to do the job right. How many $15 ones do you have to buy till you get one that works. Hope I am wrong and the cheapies are identical and good.

I thought 40 bucks was cheap compared to the 300-400 price tag of the more professional setups.

The key is the shape, depth and size of the crimp die's. Using the wrong one sure does make for a crappy crimp job and there are multitudes of wrong ones out there. The correct die also needs to have two different diameters in the same slot so the crimp is smaller on the wire than on the insulation. If you are going to be doing a bunch of ends it will pay to spend a few bucks and get the right tools.

This does the job

Thats a good price. May have to try a pair out to see if the width and the diameter is right.

I've got the same setup. Works great. I bought all of the pins and connectors from Hansen hobbies. I've repaired and shorten about 10 servos.
