First time soldering

Hey guys, i just got my Castle Sidewinder SC 3800 combo and some deans connectors. Now the scary part. It will be my first time soldering, ive gone through a couple of videos. Is there a special type of wire i should buy? Is flux necessary?

I use 60% tin 40% lead rosin core .050 electrical solder. There might be something better but its what I've had laying around. I believe you should be able to get it at your local hardware store, like ace hardware. You shouldn't need flux with rosin core. Don't forget to put the heat shrink on the wire before you start soldering :) good luck!

While flux may not seem necessary, it will improve your soldering and increase the reliability of the joint. Cuts through surface oxidation, helps direct the heat & solder flow, allowing for a quicker joint with less applied heat to the components, and a better electrical and mechanical connection. Virtually eliminates ‘cold’ joints.

A good write up on all things soldering:

Practice on some scrap wire if this is your first time. That way you don't screw up the ends of the wires on your new ESC. It's pretty easy to get the hang of.
