I live in a warm tropical environment with 33Deg Celsius as the average temperature, and want to put a heatsink and fan on the motor as a precautionary measure.

Post pics of your setup if you can.

Cheers
If your running it in your sct410, you probably won't need it. You will have a hard time getting it over 140 even with some timing.

I run about 130 on my motor with punch set at 6 and 0 timing in my Losi. The heat sink is just a peace of mind.

Should it be a mod firmware or a stock with boost/timing firmware? And what are a good base timing boost setup? Thanks
Honestly if you're going to try to get the speed of a 6.5 I'd run the stock firmware with lots of boost and timing.

Base really depends on the track. Just keep slowly up the timing till if gets a little on the warm side.

Yeah, more than likely you won't need a heatsink. These motors run nice and cool.
If anything, heatsink only though. If you gear to a fan and the fan breaks, your running too hot.

I agree heat is typically not a issue. If setup right.

I am considering, which Esc and 8.5 motor combo to buy for my 2wd sct. I am principally looking st either an sp or HW combo. I have a few questions.

What if anything am I giving up with a 2.1 compared to the 3.1? Do the 2.1 and 3.1 use the same program box? Also I asked in the sp forum, but any thoughts on the sp reventon pro vs either the xerun 2.1 or 3.1.

I'd prefer to eventually have one brand of Esc but now I have Orion Tekin and Novak so I am also looking at sp and HW because of their pricing and range of escs though this matters more down the road.

I think the QC is better on the v2.1 and v3.1 vs the reventon esc's.

The HW 3.1 has more flexibility and more user options than the 2.1 example brake switch point and two stage adjustment same as the punch levels pkus more.

Pricing ,performance and reliability id head direct to HW plus the support.
As for sp and the reventon series i can say we dont manufacture anything for sp and have no comnent on quality or performance because i havent seen one as yet or tested

How well does the 3.1 work with say the Xerun 3656-4000kv or 4700kv in a 4x4 SCT, like a heavy one. I run a Losi SCTE even with a MIP kit its still pretty heavy.

Is it possible to get a new case and caps for a Hobbywing SCT Pro? I have a blue one thats pretty worn, I'd like a black one and 2 new caps for it.

The simple answer is no. The v2.1 is still a great esc, and is very reliable. What a lot of people dont know is that the V3/V3.1 was designed to be an all out racing speed control. Although it shares a similar design to the orion which makes most people think its the same, the esc has a few small features like the lack of a switch, the ability to turn it off with brake, and the easy access programming port, along with data logging that really make it superior. Not to mention, the software of the esc is far more complex than any other Hobbywing esc. The amount of adjustment available is crazy. My general rule is if you cannot explain the difference between boost and turbo, the V3.1 should not be on your list unless you are planning to change only simple features like drag brake and brake force.

They both use the same programming box, but if i remember correctly the v3 and v2 require different software on the box.

I know people run them in cars like the tekno and losi, and they work very well. As long as you watch your temps, you will be rewarded with what will most likely be the smoothest throttle response of any truck at your track (depending on motor choice).

want to get some info on the HW justock esc as I have the option to purchase on as of right now. I only race stock and was curious how this esc works. I have heard that the HW product has very smooth power delivery and Im not a big fan of the switch feeling I have with my tekin rs.

Yes true its smooth and is zero timing .You cannot load or use any other software but zero timing.
