Also, I've never had a motor larger than a 4pole 540. Is the 1800kv 4274SD motor the way to go? I know that several guys at the local track are (or will be) running the Tekin 1900kv, so I expect the kv is in the ballpark.
T he SCT PRO will work with 4 cell in an e/buggy. Go with the 2200kv 1/8th motor, if you dont need the power you can always turn it down.....

Default Need 2 esc for sct

I am looking to purchase 2 esc for sct this year. I currently run a Tekin rs with a Revtech 17.5 in my 2wd sct and a Tekin Rx8 with a Tekin 4 pole 4000kv in my SCTE 4wd. I am happy with these but want to try something different this year. What HW esc are recommended to replace the ones I have and will be comparable in performance? I will be using these for racing only.
Thanks

Go with the v2.1 120 amp esc for your 2wd sc.This will give you the option to run a mod motor if you ever want too.If money isnt a problem then the new v3.1.For 4wd sc the SCT PRO.

Thanks Losi57. $ is always a concern, but I always look for the value. What's the difference between the v2.1 and the v3? Performance wise?

I've got a v2.1 esc with the 8.5 turn motor in my 2wd buggy and love it. Just picked up a 4wd buggy and thinking of going with a 7.5 for that. Will I be ok running the 60amp esc with the 7.5??? I know on the website it says "suitable motor" but will a 7.5 be ok?

[QUOTE=TCCustoms;11875871]SCT Pro all the way...love mine!

Check out falconsekido.

Sct-pro plat nice with the Tekin 4 pole?

My biggest concern is the esc for my 2 we sct with 17.5? I want a good one with good bec. I want it to be adjustable and as good or better than my rs. I don't like dealing with brown outs.

tekin 4 pole...blah! I run the 4700kv 4pole 3656sd hobbywing motor and it loves it and if you get the esc from falconsekido you will get the new SCT Pro with the updated BEC which is better but i never had a problem with the old sct pro and brown outs as its usually the receiver that causes the problem since the receiver(usually spektrum) is not allowing the full power on demand that the servo needs(when using power hunger servo's like savox)

I saw that...thanks. Just hoping for some "real world" personal experience.

I'm coming from a Castle MMP where there was definitely a difference between their recommendation and real world experience. (I'm not trying to bash Castle...just trying to let you know why i asked the question.)

to start off I should let you know that I am a convert from tekin to Hobbywing and im very impressed to say the least.
the v2.1 is a solid esc.I personally love the v3 ESC (newer V3.1 is out too). If you are coming of Tekin rs the v2.1 is better in both temp and current handling capabilities and has a strong BEC.however the rs lets you select an rpm range for boost and turbo; the v2 only lets you select the timing and it applies it to the entire rpm range; other than this it has all the features the rs has to offer. if boost and turbo is important to you then check out the v3 ESC. boost and turbo rpm ranges, boost curve selection and on and on... its the most programmable ESC on the market and imho the best too!!!and sure you cant beat the prices.

also consider hobbywings 4 pole 540 motors for the 4wd sc, they come in 3300kv, 4000kV &4700kv. I went from the 4000kv pro4 to a 4000KV HW and I could tell with a 0.5 sec average lap time increase. Im not kidding !!!! the SCT pro C1,2&3 combo are now going for $189 shipped, motor ,ESC and programmer... you cant go wrong with this!!

Sorry, I have to jump in because what you stated is wrong.
The HW Xerun V2.1 ESC also lets you select the boost start RPM, and also a lineair boost acceleration ramp in which you have to tell the ESC the RPM "step" when he needs to add the next step of timing, so in the end you also end with a certain boost RPM range. On top of that you can give a certain amount of turbo timing, with selectable delays and acceleration ramps....

I agree on what you stated about the V3, they work in a similar way as the Tekins for the boost start and end RPM, but on top of that you have a lot more thing to play with.
Punch in 2 stages, (with user selectable stage switch point)
Brakes in 2 stages, (with user selectable stage switch point)
Within boost start/end RPM range, you can define if you want boost to be applied lineair, or any other curve you want, even in 2 points if you like to.

These are the settings which made me decide to go from the 2.1 to V3.1 ESC, this year for my Pro10 (jet still to cold outside to run the car)

The only "problem" I see with the ESC, is that if you are not really experienced with the whole boost timing concept, your might get lost.....

The v2.1 has a strong bec you won't have to worry bout that.I actually run it in my Durango desc410r with a tekin 4600 with no problems. Its never gotten over 120 deg.The sct pro works excellent when paired with the 4600 tekin .No worrys there. If you wanna compare the v2.1 and the v3.1 just go to FalconSekido.

It would be wiser to go with a 120amp, but i have used a 60 amp in my 4wd before and it works fine. Just make sure to use the fan and you'll be good to go.
