We ar using an ambit decoder box and recently we are having unusually high line noise. We have used this system for several years and has worked great.We are using this on our oval and offroad tracks. We have 14 gauge copper wire buried no more than 4 inches deep. We tried it with and without the resistor to no avail. The loop is way shorter than the max length that amb recommends. I have seen readings as high as 135. Has anyone had this problem? And does anyone have any suggestions. I hestitate to call amb because i know they will want to sell me expensive equipment to replace it with.

I know this won't be much help if you've used the system that long but the only time we had noise issues were when the 2 sides of the loop were too close, we spread them apart and all was good.

Thnx anything is worth a try. How far did yall spread them amb says 12 inch max.

Last time we moved it on our carpet track we did the bridge thing and I KNOW it was 15-18 inches apart, I didn't have a lot to do with the scoring system but I THOUGHT they (amb) gave us a bigger window than 12 inches.
Our system was bought new 2 years ago, fyi.

The more I think about it, if your loop is that old it could be bad. Not from age just abuse from getting moved around. We used another guys loop at our backyard track and it had very high line noise. We actually just made a new loop with some wire, just the loop part connecting it to the little spliter box, can't remember what they call it.:weird: Nothing fancy and it works great. Cheap and easy to try and fix your problem.

The wire loop is not that old. Did yall use a resistor in the middle like amb recommends?

I made my loop a few years ago and I have no noise. I used speaker wire and the resister at the end in grey conduit sixteen inches apart. See if something else plugged in with it running is causing the noise on the system.

Back When I got my rc decoder I noticed the loop spacing in the manual was a little close... (amb 20 manual says 20" - 24"). I emailed them about it and David wrote back saying it was incorrect, and should be 20" - 24". ... One of my other race directors uses 21", so I've matched his.. as we share tracks. .. but I've seen post about all different widths...

Really don't think thats your problem though... usually high background noise comes from the COAX, splitter,.. or could be the BNC connector...(I have to replace one now). Check the resistance of the COAX at both ends. Should be 100K ohms + - 5%. Could even be the BNC on the decoder... have cleaned them with a q tip and contact cleaner.

If your BG noise is that high, you must be pulling your hair out!!! 20 to 25 is the norm... above 80 they usually stop counting.
