Default Optimal antenna length vs bent tubes

I got a futaba 3pm system and my antenna on there now is pretty short ( about 2in). I do this because I keep bending my antenna tubes. Even in that short length I still bending the tubes so I'm thinking of shortening it more maybe to an inch. (I don't cut the antenna I just fold some length from the Rx n let the rest stick out)

Will this degrade the performance of the radio and give more glitches? Does the whole length of the antenna designed to be run outside the car?

It will be fine in a shorter tube (not cutting the actual antenna lead). You can even run it fully inside the body and be fine.

On most 2.4 systems this should be pretty easy to have an under body ariel.

On my smallest Spektrum receiver I dont even use a tube. The little ariel just sticks straight up from the receiver.
