Hyperion eos 0720i net 3AD problems
 

Hello:

I bought a Hyperion eos 0720i net 3AD charger that I returned because the output voltage was 30.97 volts once powered on, as my multimeter showed OL (overload). I returned this charger, and got a replacement of the same model. This replacement is giving off an output voltage of 30.95-.97 volts as well, and the input voltage of the charger was showing 13.945 volts. How can that be when the charger was connected to 120vac outlet?

I plan to return this and get a full refund. I think this is abnormal. I own 3 other chargers, and all 3 once powered on show 0.000v on my multimeter.

Any opinions from the forum members are greatly appreciated!

I've surfed the web enough that I've read a number of issues with hyperion chargers. My initial experience with this charger is not pleasant at all. Some people might beg to differ but this will be the last time I will purchase this brand. I've owned 3 different brands of chargers without any issues whatsoever. This hyperion brand I will steer away from.

ha thats funny let me guess you had no battery hooked up the the output leads just a volt meter right..........all hyperion chargers (and most of other brands not all) will show a high voltage with no battery plugged into it and as far as the input voltage is concerned it reads the voltage after the built in 12v power supply so 13.945v with no load sounds about right

theres nothing wrong with that charger at all, hook a battery up and i bet it reads the correct voltage and works as should

hyperion makes some of the best chargers around, i just checked my old original hyperion duo (witch ive been charging with for three + years and its never given me one issue not one over or under charged a battery it has been great)and also my new duo3+ and both the new and old duo read 31 volts with no load or battery hooked up.........totally normal

Perhaps you should try charging a battery!

I used to measure all sorts of weird stuff just because of curiosity. It was fun and I learned a lot, but I sure got frustrated by a bunch of red herrings. Sometimes things act in a way that doesn't fit your expectations - just be sure that your expectations are correct before condemning the item. Maybe your hypothesis is incorrect.

Personally I never measured the unloaded output of that charger (I have one) but I will now. Just for curiosity. But I know before hand that it charges and balances well, and has served me well.

Yep, 31V at the leads when plugged in.

It charges fast and balances well. And has done so for over 8 months. 2s, 3s and 4s batteries, NiCd and NiMh and LiPos. All with no issues.

Thank you to all who responded to my post! I will hook up a battery to this charger, and I'll see what happens. My issue with the hyperion is I own 3 other rc chargers, and tested their outputs with a multimeter and they all read 0.000 volts. When I contacted customer service where I purchased this charger from, they were just clueless! At least I got a valid response from this forum.

It is tough - the online retailers often know next to nothing, and if you phrase something right, and they want to keep you happy, they will just initiate an exchange straight away.

Hope it works out for you - I love my Hyperions. But I haven't tried too many others yet. I hear the iCharger is great too.

I was curious, so I checked my chargers, my Team Checkpoint 1030 - 0.35v, iCharger 3010b - 0v, GT Power A-6-10 - 0v, and my Hyperion 0610iNet - 31.45v.
None have ever failed to charge anything asked of it, 2S thru 6S life and lipo, nimh.
