Radio, Receiver or ESC problem?
I'm using a LRP A3-STX Radio and receiver combo, with my TF-5 original KA15 ESC. Today at the track i noticed some issues. Like it didn't seem to be as fast as it should have, also whenever i set the throttle trim, its like the center point keeps moving.
Then later today it started showing up a new problem. Whenever the steering is at 100% L/R the throttle engages. I've tried reprogramming my esc, but it doesn't seem to be making any changes. The book says the status led is meant to be green for neutral, off for power each direction, red at max throttle or max reverse and during breaking. I cant get it to go red at full throttle on my radio in either forward or reverse, ive even tried setting my EPA on the radio to 120%. I definitely get more power when i do that, but still not 100%. If I reconnect the original radio, i do get 100% throttle. Now im not sure where the problem lies, whether it is with the radio, the esc, or maybe the esc doesnt like the radio... Perhaps its because i cant set the esc properly for the new radio??? Help :( |
Can anyone help me on this?

Not familiar with your particular ESC but I would start at the beginning
Centre throttle trim Set throttle travel (EPA's) at 100% Calibrate ESC Sit car on flat surface Adjust thottle trim until car starts to move, then back it off slightly If steering affects your throttle then you may have other issues What steering servo are you using ? Your RX might be browning out (losing signal) usually caused by a weak ESC bec Limit your steering servo travel and see if the problem goes away You may need a glitch buster style capacitor or external bec Cheers |
I have tried to recalibrate the esc, but it doesn't seem to be saving the new settings.
I'll def try epa on the steering to see if that helps. I'm not sure on the brand or model of the servo, its just the standard kit one. But i also thought it might be BEC related (i googled BEC after i saw it mentioned in other posts about glitching) I was thinking of just picking up the Novak havoc esc/ss pro motor combo, which short of being an issue with the servo would solve the issue right? Thanks heaps for your reply, I appreciate the help. I'm still very new to all this. |
So epa didnt help with problem, but i have some new info. If i disconnect the steering servo from the RX the problem is still there. In fact, when i do that the steering channel also seems to act as a throttle revving the engine by turning the steering... Also, it only starts after i use throttle then turn before the wheels stop spinning. Could this mean the issue is the the TX or the RX?

Do you have the throttle lead connected into the right slot on the RX ?
Cheers |
Yep. Just tried reversing them on the rx and the steering controlled the throttle (and also the steering) the throttle controlled the steering.
|
Also, if i reconnect the original radio system, the problem goes away.

So I now have a new motor, esc and lipo battery system, so the only common components with my old system is the radio, and the steerig servo. Problem still persists. I've even got a Novak glitch buster capacitor in the system. Sounds like it might be the radio system or steering servo?

Anyone?
Faulty RX or Servo? |
Sounds like you have enabled channel mixing or your radio has gone bonkers. Have you tried resetting radio to factory defaults and starting over? I would call LRP if reset doesn't work they'll have you fixed up in no time. |
Solved with new radio/receiver. Thanks for the help guys :)
