Digital Brushless vs. Digital Coreless Servos
What's the difference & advantage/disadvantage between the two?
Hope to get some responds soon as deciding on which servo to get. |
The performance of the brushless is generally less than brushed but they are getting better all the time.
There are some pretty good brushless servo's out there. I personally use Futaba BLS351(.13/60deg, 15.6kg) on the steering and BLS451(.10/60deg, 10.6kg) for the throttle on my MP9 Buggy. MKS produce a good brushless servo BLS950 (6 volt, speed .12/60deg, 12kg), the servo is marketed as Turnigy also with the same part number. Sanwa have brushless also but IMO not up to the required performance as yet. I used to use KO Brushed but they cost heaps and only last a season before the brushes wear out. I found Futabe brushed to last a long time. Savox are very good value for money and have some very good performance figures. I'm sure there will be other opinions pop up here as there is so much choice out there. |

Cheers for the reply.
I actually fancy the sanwa's and finalized it between the SRG-BZ (brushless) or the SRG-CZ (coreless). Which one would you recommend? http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6643/imagefpd.jpg |
My opinion is that currently the coreless servos offer more for the money, and provide the torque and speed most surface users are looking for. Brushless are supposed to be more efficient, and less susceptible to damage from vibration and wear. But I find that debatable currently. I think brushless servos are great for heli tail rotors because they do not generate as much heat and they can handle the constant input from the giro. The demands on an RC car are high as far as torque and speed are concerned, but the benefits of brushless are lost in that the signal demands aren't as frequent. I, too, suggest the Savox brand servos. I just purchased one for my B44 and LOVE it. They are VERY powerful, superfast, and inexpensive compared to others. Sanwa/Airtronics makes great servos but I've always found them price-prohibitive. That's my 2 cents +.
