Default Did I ruin my new LIPO? :(

So I got a brand new BLUE 3000mAH 20c 4s battery for my starter box today. I went to change the plugs from the stock ones to bullet connectors. When I took off the plug the two wires touched and arched. It made a small spark but nothing to bad. Now my charger wont recognize it (Connection Break), and when I plug it into the box there is no power.

Can any battery experts help me out here? I know I did this once before with a LIPO for my mini and it didn't work for a while, then one day did. So idk. Help please! lol Thanks.

If you are confident with charging then you may be able to restore it

Set your charger to nimh mode and charge it slowly until it comes up to min voltage (13v or so)

Then charge it as you would normally

Keep a good eye on it as you may have damaged the pack

Cheers

Hopefully you can get it working using the method above, but consider it a lesson:

Never cut the plug off both wires at once. Cut one, solder new plug and heatshrink that connection, then cut the other and solder/shrink it.

My bet is that you ended up melting one of the solder tabs in the pack itself...

If thats the case you MAY be able to fix it if you're careful... But if you don't know what you're doing I wouldn't mess with it.

As somebody else stated.. and you're now aware.. Don't cut both sides of a plug off at once.. Cut one, solder to new connector, cut the other, solder it.

Good luck though!

you may have shorted one of the balancing wires. Don't make it charge if it doesn't recognize it!
cut the plastic off to uncover the wires, make sure they're all connected. If you see a wire that isn't... solder it.

also look for "bridging," where two wires are touching.

I've fixed two LiPo batteries, not scary.

Thanks for the replies. I should have known to only do one at a time, I wasn't really thinking i guess

I'll try the NIMH mode. With a fire extinguisher on hand. The pack doesn't appear to be puffed or damaged in any way. I looked inside the wrap at the connections and see no burns or broken connections either.

Are there any precautions or special steps to take when charging in NIMH mode?
Thanks again!

Charge it at a low rate 1 amp or so and stop as soon as it hits 13v

Cheers

Thank you. My the NIMH setting does not have a cell count selection. Is that okay?

I will try it soon and post results. Thanks again

Did the exact same thing with my first lipo. I ended up opening up the end of pack and remelting the solder. Still running that pack too. I am experienced with a soldering iron though, so make sure you know what you're doing before messing with it.

I checked all the tabs and they are all attached properly. So I dont think that's the problem.

Charge mode. Commence!

I tried hooking it up on NIMH mode and it still says connection error.

I heard its possible to charge each cell individually. How would i go about doing this? Thanks!

Sounds like you haven't soldered the connection correctly, or are using 'fake' deans which I find don't connect properly a lot of the time.

I think at this point you should check the main leads and the balance plug with a multimeter to verify good connections, before you go any further with the charger.
