Servo that wont overload BEC for SC
So it seems every new servo out there draws so much power they cause issues of one form or another. Anybody have any suggestions for a servo that wont require me to run a cap or BEC?

Just the nature of the beast unfortunately
Whats the problem with running a cap or external bec ? Mates have had better luck with Hobbywing ESC's Cheers |
Just seems like its a band aid. Kind of looks like i dont have a lot of choices though.

Not everybody has the issue, but most seem to involve the fastest servos. Usually rated say 0.07s (or quicker). The quicker response simply requires more power. The 1/8 scale intended servos, like the bigger Hitecs, can be an issue in a 1/10 too. I don’t think the cap if needed is that bad, but that’s not your question of course. And you’re right, the built in BECs are overall a little behind right now.
So assuming the SC10 in your sig, maybe look for something rated at about 0.09 to 0.12s. Perhaps in the 120 to 160oz-in torque range. Still pretty good speed, not as likely to have issues. Depends on budget, I really like the Futaba BLS451, nice and smooth, never heard of this issue with one. On the pricier side though, I’m sure others will chime in and provide other excellent options at a variety of prices. There should be a ton of options in this performance range. |
JR 9100 series. Get the S for speed or the T for huge torque. Use them with Castle MMM and MMP, and tekin rs pro. No glitching problems with these servos. I tried a Savox 1258 with my MMP 2400 KV sc system, and it glitched like hell. Sold it and dropped in a JR 9100 T, and never had a problem.

A Futaba 9452 isn't too expensive, digital, fast enough and strong enough to handle steering duties and shouldn't brown out your RX.

Actually was looking at the BL451. If i can find one around here. I might pick one up.

Hey I'm new to 1/10th scale electric and also have a sc10. When you say glitching problems why exactly do you mean..i have stock esc/motor and a decent traxxis servo..and when I'm at a dead stop if I go wide open while the wheels are turned the truck "glitches" per say..the light on the rx and speed control flicker and the truck just stutters forward a bit at a time..now if I don't touch the steering while I'm stopped and go wide open it doesn't happen most of the time...Is this what you are refering too??
