Charger Question
I didn't want to do it, but I have to ask for a suggestion of which one to get. My eyes are bleeding from searching/reading and I'm no closer.
I need to currently charge my glow plug warmer, hump pack, and my sons 7.2 and 8.4 packs. The future holds lipos! So I need a 1-xx cell nicd/nimh, 1-6s lipo, 100w+ plug in, internal power supply and balancer. Would like it to be digital with individual lipo cell readouts, and banana plug input Don't mind spending money, but don't want it to come with a 400 page manual either....so I'm thinking 100-150 bucks give or take. I would appreciate some help if you could. |
Good day!
I use the Dynamite Passport Ultra and Have had no problems. I think they retail for about $120. http://www.dynamiterc.com/Passport/ |
100watts is about the limit in an AC/DC charger, there are a few with more, but they are very expensive. The Passport Ultra has a 100watt internal PS and the effective power available for charging will be less than that due to the inefficiency in operating the charger, it's usually listed as about 90watts of effective output power.
If you're serious about the higher cell count lipos, 4S - 6S, you should consider a DC powered charger since both 5S and 6S lipos will run into current limiting with a 100watt charger due to its output power limit. A charger like the Passport Ultra will charge 5 or 6S lipos, but the reduced charge rate will make for longer chare times than a full 1C type charge rate would have. You can get something like a 106b iCharger with 250watts and a 10amp max charge rate for ~$100 and a 350watt power supply for ~$70 for just a little more than you're budgeting. T |
I appreciate both responses. While I'm leaning towards the all-in-one, the extra power has it's benefits. I'm going to keep looking around and see what happens, thanks guys

if your looking for some good chargers with good power then the protek series might be a good fit. you can charge muti packs with a muti balance board but you will need a good power supply.
Best charger for me thus far. |
The Protek chargers are re-badged iChargers made under AMain's house brand name. Other than the cosmetics, they are the same charger.
