Troubleshooting Spektrum DX3E
 
I have a Spektrum DX3E radio system w/ Spektrum S200 servo on throttle and a Futaba S3305 servo on steering.

Today, my throttle was hesitating a bit when I gunned it. Wasn't sure if it was an engine problem or what. After one run, the throttle servo (Spektrum S200) stopped responding (luckily it went out on the starter box).

I switched the throttle and steering inputs in the receiver to see if maybe the receiver throttle port went bad. Then the steering servo (Futaba S3305)started sticking hard right... in both steering and throttle ports. It's getting power, but it just turns hard right when I turn the receiver on. Checked the batteries in receiver and transmitter. All good.

So it looks like the S200 servo is toast and the receiver or transmitter is screwed.

Is there any thing else I can do to narrow it down? I'd hate to buy a new receiver and it turns out the transmitter is bad or vice versa.

I'm new to all this, and would appreciate any insight.

Are your trims all centered when you are testing the servos ?

Yes.

A litte more info:

When I turn the transmitter off, the servo turns hard left. When I turn on the transmitter, the servo turns hard right. So, the transmitter and receiver are communicating....something.

rebind the radio to the receiver as per the instruction manual, keep the servos straight if possible, neutral position or if all fails unplug the servos from the receiver when binding, sounds to me that the fail safe is acting up and over taxing the servos when it loses signal


when your done binding the radio and have the receiver turned on, shut off the radio to see what exactly the servos will do when the signal is lost, hope it helps

make sure the car is not running either electric or nitro when doing this

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, it won't bind. With bind plug in bind port, and power going to the aux port, I get nothing. The transmitter LED is supposed to blink after holding the bind button...nothin. Also, the reciever LED does not light up.

Its an SR300 receiver if that helps.

I'm thinking both the servo and receiver that came with the Spektrum DX3E have gone bad.

Do I have to get the same model receiver or can I get a better one and bind it to my transmitter?

Did I buy a crappy radio?

did you try it with out the servos installed, I would of thought the receiver would of started to blink with the bind plug in, how is the receiver battery as I am thinking this is for nitro, and thinking the instructions say to do the receiver first then radio, afterwards remove the bind plug

just looking over the instructions, looks like you should be able to power the receiver in any of the channels, just check the polarity so it will power up

and really have no answer if it is good or bad, I have one in my crawler, works great and have a 3s for racing

Yea, I removed the servos per instructions. I guess I'll replace the receiver and servo. I needed a better servo anyway.

I've had to replace a part every stinkin time I've taken it out (Hot Bodies D8). It's a good buggy, but dang this hobby is expensive!

do you know anyone else in your area that is running a spektrum radio system that you might be able to borrow a receiver, if so then you could try theirs and they could try yours to see if it is the radio

still sucks either way, I hate having radio problems:nod:
