Using a lipo as a power source

I race Nitro. I want to know is it feasable to use a couple of high capacity Lipos as a power source. Getting tired of carring a lead acid battery as my portable DC power source.

Of course. A battery is a battery, volts are volts.

You have two options: one 4 cell or two 2 cells.

Just don't run them down like you would a SLA or poof!

You could wire in a voltage cutoff or monitor to keep tabs on the packs and you will need a lipo capable charger.

I was thinking of paralleling 2 4s @5000mah. That should last me all day. I only have to charge my rec pack(800mah, My glow charger and maybe my transmitter batteries) 10000 mah capacity should handle this with no problem.
I just have to justify the price vs a PB battery

thanks for the reply

I was using an inexpensive Venom 4S 2300 pack and that lasted all day in my starter box plus it doesn't take forever to recharge.

Well I done some research. With a fully charged 4s lipo (16.8) I believe my Charger (Triton II) would fault on excessive input voltage. The triton is rated between 11- 15 Vdc input. So I may have to look at a 3s lipo. The best price I can find is About $31 dollars with free shipping form China.

To be continued

If that's all you really need it for have you considered getting an automotive jump start pack? Have not checked prices lately but it may be cheaper than a pair of LiPo packs and it can actually be used for things other than the toy car hobby :)

I made a battery box using a 8000mah 4s Li-fe and it works great all day.
