Steering/centering servo
I just installed a new digital Spektrum servo. I plugged it in and turned it on to find center, then i installed the servo horn. I removed and replaced it a half dozen times. the way the splines line up on the horn, when the servo is dead center, the horn is not.
to get the wheels straight, i have to adjust the trim on my radio, 14 points. the issue is I have a larger turning radius to the left, than I do to the right. its a FT SC10. I ASSUMED that this wouldnt be a big deal, because the difference is not a huge difference, and its off road, we're always sliding around anyways. However assuming has never done me any favors. advice? |
What transmitter do you have? Subtrim and EPA/Travel adjustments are the best solution if available.
Also I doubt if the RC steering mechanism is completely equal to both sides. Generally for an 1/10 offroad the horn needs to be tilted slightly to the center of the RC for best alignment for the most consistent steering. With some adjustment of the link length going to the servo horn. |
I did same thing on my FT SC with same servo (I think) just get it as close as you can, it will be fine. More than likely you will have to trim it a little anyway.

try to adjust your EPA setting to a point where you can trim it after installing servo horn, to get back to zero.

Makes sense. Ill try that, thanks |
Some cars require the servo horn to be off-set a few degrees. Like said above, subtrim and EPA are used to fine tune the steering. Just eye ball it the best you can.

I know what the steering trim is but what is the EPA?
|
EPA is End Point Adjustment. It's how far the servo travels when you move the transmitter all the way, full left steering for example. Get full steering without going too far and binding up.
Some radios call it Travel, I've seen other terms too. Very useful function to have in a radio. |
found it, thanks. EPA was set at 100 for both sides. I havent pulled the horn off to mess with it yet, didnt have time. ill try it tonight. I have a buddy that lives down the street who really knows what he's doing with this stuff, maybe Ill go bug him when I get off work.

Im an idiot. the steering link is threaded with ballcups. I adjusted it and now the wheels are dead straight with the trim at 0. DOH!
