Fail safe questions from a newbie
 

Hi all, I'm getting the Futaba 3PMX radio/receiver. I know it comes with a fail safe feature in case the receiver lost connection with the transmitter. But i've also read about a cable device which wll stop your rc car if the receiver batteries died. Do I still need to get this cable thingie?

Another newbie here but I have installed a couple of failsafes on my cars. The radio failsafe will prevent a runaway if you lose signal but won't do anything for low receiver batteries.

I like the OFNA micro failsafe for that. The thing is tiny and it will fit anywhere. It will put on the brakes if either I lose signal or the receiver battery pack gets low. Keep in mind that it won't work either if the battery becomes disconnected or is completely dead, as it needs some power to apply the brakes. But I can tell you that it definitely:nod: works.

Oh by the way some guys also use some kind of return spring on their throttle so if the receiver dies it will pull the throttle back to idle. But personally I don't like that idea because then your servo is always pulling against that spring when the throttle is open. It seems to me it will put wear on the servo and certainly drain the battery pack faster, but that's just my opinion.

If you're running HRS mode, the TX has both loss of signal and low rcvr batt voltage failsafes. See pg 44 in your manual....


If you're running ppm mode, you'll need something else. I've used the Ofna failsafe and its small and effective.
