Go to your local Army/Navy store and get an old ammo box.. they are cheap. Safety first :sneaky:

They are absolutely fire and explosion proof. Air tight as well which would go a long way to keeping a flameup to a minimum. I've been using ammo cans for years. |
Awesome idea! I'll be visiting the surplus store this week :D

This lil guy would work good too!! For 20 bucks, it's fire AND explosion proof. You can't beat it. |
I use a .50 cal ammo can...
I drilled a few holes as a vent...as if anything were to happen, I'd be worried about having them in an airtight container |
Air tight = BIG EXPLOSION!! some guy tested a fire proof box and had a vent on it and the vent was not big enough the whole lid blew right off and it exploded!!

The Sentry fire box would probably work perfect with the lid closed but not locked. If the lipo burned it would lift the lid just enough to let the gases out but still contain the heat.

Anybody had a lipo "go off" while in storage?
|
Any other ideas? Thanks

If the thing is damaged and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it it's different, but normally I do what they do at the hobby shop and put them on a shelf for storage. The only time I have ever heard of one going off is if it was damaged in a crash or if someone was doing a demo and blowing one up on purpose. |

I err on the side of caution. I put mine in a liposack and then store the whole thing in an ammo box. I keep the lid closed, but I've yet to put a "damaged or suspect" lipo in the box. I suppose if I did, I would leave the box unlatched with the the lipo in the sack inside.
If I ever encounter a situation where a have a "puffed" lipo, I will be getting rid of it right away with the following disposal technique: http://www.rctoys.com/pr/2007/07/06/...battery-packs/ Now there also seems to be some confusion as to whether this works if you have not made an opening in the batterys covering. I really can't argue it either way. With the hard case batterys I don't know how you would do this. I don't know that I want to do this lol. I think the key to the whole thing is discharging the pack. From what I've read, if its too charged then the salt water will eat the tabs off the pack before its fully neutralized and discharged. |
