Question about throttle exp feature
 

Hello,

I have been trying to get a slow smooth setup for my daughter's rc car and someone suggested I use the throttle exp feature on a radio to just turn the throttle way down. Well, the current radio we have only has the throttle neutral setting.

Is there a radio that you can use the throttle exp setting to simply turn the power down on a esc/motor setup? From what I've read some exp settings are a curve effect rather than a linear effect. I think what I'm looking for is a linear effect (I think!).

I'm currently using a XL5 from a Traxxas RTR that we put in practice mode which from what is says is 50% power, but I still need it slower and smoother.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

the radio that came with my sons jammin scrt10 RTR has a knob that will slow the truck down all the way to a crawl. It's a cheap radio but because of this feature I've kept it. In fact when I notice he is crashing way too much at the track we run at I just turn it down a little until he gets the hang of it.

That is exactly the feature I need. At first my son was "practice mode....dad make it go fast", but after crashing too much he was "dad, can you slow it down....are you sure its in practice mode?" LOL. Proud of him, he is understanding the go slow to go faster principal. :)

EXP (Expo) will adjust in an exponential manner the amount of throttle given for a given trigger pull. This is a feature not usually found on RTR type radios. So you can pull trigger 10% but you are actually telling car 5% or 20% depending on how it's setup.

What you are looking for is called EPA (End Point Adjustment). This allows you to in essence turn down what the transmitter sends when the trigger is pulled. So you can pull trigger 100% but you are only telling car 50%. Most radios have this setting.

Most radios will have a trim for steering (to keep car going straight), a trim setting for neutral (adding more or less will make car move when no trigger is applied or vice versa), EPA-throttle (to adjust how much gas or brake is applied at full trigger) and EPA-steering (to adjust how far the servo will travel in each direction for steering).

Yep, EPA is what you need to use. I have a 2.4GHz (Spektrum) Losi TX that has endpoint adjustment pots on it. You could have it if you want, but you'd have to buy a Spektrum RX to go in the vehicle.
