school me on batteries

I know NOTHING about LiPo batteries. I have always used NiMh.

I am picking up a FT SC10 today. I was just planning on getting a quick charger and 2 NiMh batteries, but I am considering LiPo.

I found some chargers on Amain for $99, how long do these typically take to charge a lipo?

I am getting a Sidewinder SCT system, so i know I will be limited to 2s lipo.

What kind of lipo would I need to get decent run times etc without spending a bunch of money?

whats the differenc between a $50 lipo and a $100 lipo?

Run times are mainly a function of capacity - its mewasured in mah and is usually the big number talked about when battery is mentioned - like a 2S 5000mah 40C lipo. Genberally get the biggest one that will fit in your RCs batt tray without disturbing balance an adding too much weight.

You're welcome, I know how confusing all the detail about lipo can be. The write up from that site will at least give you some working knowledge to go forward with. As other questions come up, just ask, be glad to help out.

On your orig post, the diff in a $50 and $100 lipo is usually due to labor spent matching the individual cells that go into the lipo. The premium brands are matched for internal resistance and capacity and the non-premium brands apparently are not. My Neuenergy lipos cell imbalance is typically less than 5mv. My HobbyKing lipos on the other hand, cell imbalance is typically greater than 10mv.

Matched cells are supposed to perform better and last longer. I'm not sure how much of a diff that will actually turn out to be.
