Charging a Lipo...
I also posted this in the beginner's forum, but I thought I might get some more informed posts here. I'm just getting back into r/c after a few years, and apparently Lipo is the way to go. My question is what should I be looking for in a good charger? I will need it to be AC. My main concern is how do I know when a Lipo is completely charged? Do all chargers have a built in cut-off for peak charging, or do I need to watch the voltage? It seems like the Delta Peak function is just for Nimh and Nicd. I'll be running 2s packs for 1/10 electric offroad, so the voltage at full charge should be at 8.4, correct? Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Do most chargers shut themselves off when a Lipo is fully charged?

Peak charging is something NiMh, NiCd does, lipo uses a charge protocol called C/CV and yes, charger using lipo mode will automatically shut down when the CV phase of the charge is finished. Would advise reading about lipo so you can handle them knowledgeably and stay safe with them -
http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-lipo-batteries.html For a charger, consider the Thunder AC-6 sold by Hobbypartz. Its a good charger, plenty in use here, won't break the bank and has a good rep - http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html |
Thanks for the help. I've been reading as much as I can, and I think I'm getting a handle on the info. Thanks again!
