I find it interesting a user account only has 4 posts and 3 of them are in this thread trying to stir it up.

It might be a coincidence but let's not point fingers or try to do prove who is wrong. As it looks like there might be an issue with FedEx. I think he might be upset that there was a problem with the esc in the 1st place.

Ganoid, hang in there, Viper will take care of you and get you going again.

I am sure that is the core of the issue. And it sucks when new things break. Every esc/receiver/radio/motor manufacture has had to deal with items that DOA. That is they was of the electronics works. I do not believe that viper has a higher than normal failure rate. You just got unlucky. It happen everywhere. I bought a new car (real one) and had to take it in for warranty for after 1 week of ownership. And I had to rely on my wife or friends to get to work for a few days. Crap happens.

ganoid - I would like to know who, with the Viper organization you spoke to about helping to get this situation resolved - via direct email (with the tech maybe) or contacting us via our phone number (a toll free line, that can connect you to 3-4 different people) or our tech support email (which is monitored by the owner of the company). If there is an issue we can help you resolve it, there are many points of contact. I know your new to rctech, but also if you noticed the posts, I am representative of the company you can always PM me as well, I sent you a PM in case you weren't aware of system delivery messages.

As for the failure - yes, if a portion of the BEC circuit with in the speed controls fails, its can deliver voltage via the system to the servo so you continue to have steering, but will not transfer voltage to the motor, because of the failure. There are multiple reasons this can happen, from voltage spike, to heat, to bad component. If it ran as short as you stated, it as a bad component, and as others have stated it can happen -- we hate to see it happen, but it does.

Finally, we will also talk with our Fed Ex account manager, we have had issues with deliveries not being made, and notes that no one is at the office, when we are sitting there tracking the shipment waiting for a parts delivery.

Just need to contact us directly to help get things squared away.

Love how viper put out a new software update and state "Viper engineers have updated the firmware to provide more power and improved throttle control using 4 pole motors with a 2S battery. This update will allow racers to use 100% Punch with these motors, something other speed control manufacturers do not recommend." Updated my new vtx8 with the vlink and still cant run my tekin pro4 4600 at 100% punch or 100% power. I cant even run it at 80%. The vtx8 is junk and as stated before it doesnt matter if you call or email them on the issue.

I put in my buddies 7.5 viper and before the 2nd qaulifier started my rear arm decided to crack clean in half so i didnt get to see if the motor swap fixed my issue, anyone else have this problem?
I would disable the temp cut off, and just check temps with a temp gun, yes I have heard that the sensor information for temp is not always correct with that brand (I have heard some work and some don't). We all us different components, of course they are styled to our products, while we try and keep it broad enough to work with others, sometimes you have to experiment a little. Make sure its set up at least 220-230 (remember we try and read that temp off the rotor, which is higher than the can), you can also disable it and check it with a temp gun.

I ran mine for 20 minutes straight at 100 Punch, driving like a crazy beginner full throttle all the time with the Tekin 4600 - gave it to a customer who ran the same set up all weekend at the SC Showdown in MA, almost made the A Main. Others have reported similar improvement with the upgrade, especially when they were experiencing cut offs previously or having to run highly reduced settings.

Verify that when you plug in the ProGauge it shows a61. Also check on the motor- feel the wires connecting to the motor and make sure one is not hotter than the others. How old is the Tekin motor? Did you try a different motor, just to verify? Hate to say there could be a failure someone, but we all know it happens.

I always disable the motor temp. If I can get something to run under 140 on the can, I get rid of it. I see not need to run 160+ to get power.

That's a loaded situation -- some motors will perform a little better with slightly higher heat. Its a balancing act, to get a little more speed, you generate a little more heat. More heat, shorter motor lifetime, potential issues. Everyone has a different (personal) limit. I will run my motors hotter at big event than I would for club racing -- my choice.

It is a61 because I couldnt before I did the update if I just went full throttle it would shut down. Now after the update I had to lower the throttle freq and punch and fwd power to hold it full throttle down the straight away and even then it is surging. The motor is new has 7 batteries thru it.

Things I would check would be to look at Profile 3 settings, to make sure Battery Voltage cut off is at 6.4v. Under Misc tab, makes sure 4 pole is selected. Also make sure motor direction is Normal, under the same Misc Tab. And that you are in blinky mode, not Race Open mode - no need to boost these 4 pole beasts, they suck enough energy as it is.

Ganoid - Sean,

Spoke with the home office, all the processing was completed Friday, after the final shipping pickup.

Item is actually sitting in the bin to be shipped out to you today. Would you like an email with the tracking number, PM'd to you or would you like it posted on the thread?

Nick/Viper
