Great. This means the ESC has some kind of boost converter or step-up transformer to keep the set BEC voltage.

Hi guys,

Gone ahead and ordered the vtx8 for my 8th, may also need a 10th one!

I am a bit confused by the black editions versus the original, in that if the BE is recommended for TC applications, if I am planning to run a 4wd buggy with a 6.5 motor in it, do I also need a BE? Or will the normal 10R do the trick?

Will it handle temps or will I need a fan setup?

The normal 10R will work.

The BE has a bigger cap that mounts off of the ESC case and some guys say a little better brakes. I didn't run the Orange so I can't confirm the brakes. The Orange ESC has the caps on it though so I would say that is important if you are tight on space. Either way, you can't go wrong.

The 'R' is needed for 4wd or below 6.5T
For 2wd, I suggest VTX10 BE
For 4wd, I suggest VTX10R BE

Just make sure that if you are buying it used that it has the a55 firmware and you are all set

Quick hello to everyone from the Snowbirds -- having fun in orlando -- almost 24 hour a day racing. 11 hours of on road qualifying just finished and oval practice is going on right now, with qualifying to follow. checkout www.snowbirdnationals.com for info and live video.

Thanks to all the team guys answering questions for me, while I am here wrenching with Josh and Smyka. I am even getting a little F1 racing in - having a blast, just wish there was time to sleep.

Thanks to everyone for the support, meeting new guys using the stuff and hearing more from racers in different parts of the country that they see Viper products more and more.....

I think the newer orange vtx10s with the black caps have the a55 firmware. No?

the a55 is the latest for the vtx10. The vtx8 is new. I am not even sure if they have a new firmware yet. So yes on the vtx10 and not sure on the vtx8.
