Ciao, Max - thanks for the answer. That is correct, the VLink was not intended as a tool to change profiles, just the features within it.
Will it evolve -- how knows -- lots of cool ideas under consideration.
Curious to those who had the issues with it not "taking" the first time. Did you ever have update issues with the old program? Like you had to do it multiple times?
For those going to update the VTX1 - remember, its a separate VLink download, because the software differs for the 1s application.

i can confirm you that i never had issue to update the esc firmware, honestly at the begining i lost a lot of time to set up properly the computer, to many usb port so i serched one by one which one was connected with the esc , but when done the first time, now is a question of only few minutes.
Ciao

Just thought I would pass on some information regarding the forthcoming Viper 1/8th Speedo - I hope I'm not out of line by posting this, but I was encouraged to post my opinion about it by the Canadian rep, who gave me the ESC to test in my RC8.2e...
Regarding build quality, it's excellent. This speed controller is very, very solid, built in the same manner at the VTX 1/10th scale ESC's, with a very solid aluminum case. With the solid build quality, however, comes weight.
I was running a Tekin RX8 before, but after I had a meltdown (caused by an pipe landing that likely caused a short, and a very rapid but short ESC fire), I was given the Viper ESC to test. I ended up replacing the RX8, so I was able to do a weight comparison. I knew the weight difference was substantial, but I was surprised to find that the Viper ESC is almost 2x the weight of the Tekin - I would have to say this is because of the all-aluminum case, and the fact that the case is filled with epoxy (or something similar). If you look at the robustness of the two speedo's, the Viper is certainly more solid.
I wasn't concerned about the extra weight, due to the large amount of torque that the 1/8th scale motors have.
We did have an issue with motor cut-off the first few runs as we tried to find the correct gearing and temp cut-off. The default out-of-the-box temp cutoff is a rather conservative 160F - this had to be bumped up to about 200F. I landed on 46/14 gearing, which led to can temps of about 155F, which was what I was after (internal temps would be, of course, quite a bit higher).
Once that was done, the speedo was rock solid. I've run it in 4 or 5 club races, won a few, and placed 2nd a couple of other times. We had a big race this weekend, and I qualified 4th out of 14th. Unfortunately, I didn't finish well because some idiot (cough cough) didn't solder the motor wire properly, and it broke off. I'll have to have a word with my mechanic about that...
I haven't played with adding any additional timing, since with motors of this size it's not really necessary. However, since the speedo is running the same software as the other Viper ESC's, you'll be right at home using the ProGauge.
To summarize, the speedo is built like a tank, which is perfect for 1/8th off road action. I'm hoping that the rep will forget about this speedo so I can continue to run it in my buggy, but since there's only a few of these babies in existence, I have a feeling that he won't
In short: two thumbs absolutely up! Anyone want to buy a Tekin RX8?

Dog Bone - glad you like VTX8, they have been good and solid in testing - like you said winning some club and small trophy races already in just the testing phase.
The a55 software, was designed to help run the motor cooler, glad you see if working that way.
I wish I had some touring experience to pass along - on road is my next project!!

Thanks for that. I was following something off the viper forums (for A25 or so), and that put my boost rpm settings higher than yours - 6000-22000 instead of your 4000-16500.
Lowering the top rpm will make top end turbo kick in quicker and the boost ramp up faster? Will it affect top speed at all?

just received the BE, using Thunder Power 17.5 with my Wildfire build until The black Can comes out.
i was going to use my Sv2 to run with and test out the ride,
until i could figure which new esc to use but all the investigating steered me to this Viper.
So much smaller and the easy programing is a Great Plus (this is quite the LIL' Jewel) darn wires over power its size itself.
