Thank you Jeff. I'm in the market for a 1/12 speedo for the upcoming carpet season. I have a VTX10R in my touring car and love it. I'm really holding on to hope that the twelver delivers as well.

Hey Everyone,

This is actually my 2nd VTX10R. The first one I got just stopped working on its second lap and I had it RMA'ed. Viper sent me a brand new one because they were concerned that that ESC which came from the first production batch might have had some BEC issues. Anyways since I got the new ESC I've been running the settings recommended by Weylin and they are also very similar to my Speedpassion GT2.0. Track is low grip concrete, tight and main straight is 20m long.

Settings run were:
VTX10R
VST 4.5 motor with 45 degrees timing
Hotbodies TCX 4wd touring on rubber tires
Air temp 10 degrees celcius.
Profile 6
Stock mode (boost disabled)
FDR 8.08 and 8.5
Punch 60%
Brake PWM 3200
Throttle PWM Tried 4000, 5000, 8000, 12000, 16000

The motor is cool to the touch and it is only the ESC that is getting very hot. All of the combos listed have resulted in the ESC thermalling at 5 minutes. I have also had it shut down and play dead for a while.

Anyways I just wanted to get some help from Viper because it has been almost 2 months since I sent the email to Weylin.

Actually Weylin does not work as team manager no more in Viper.

I would try to get the timing in the can back to 30, this will give more punch and less speed, but at a 20 mts straight you will certainly be lacking him. My guess is to go for 8.7 FDR, also check your brakes and drag brake, on a tight track if your abusing on them maybe your overheating the motor.

Also a thin rotor would help, actually i found that the less the turns the thinner your rotor will have to be, i like more the feeling.

also,
Viper motors tend to like being geared up, so "yes" I also agree with Jorgesimes and immediate turn down the endbell timing to 30* which will increase punch and gear up 1-2 teeth on your pinion to gain on top end..

also, please keep in mind that as you increase the PWM on both the throttle and brake setting on your Pro Gauge this will also lead towards a higher operating temp on both the ESC and Motor.. Depending on your track layout/race conditions, you can always lower your brake power % settings ON YOUR ESC (not the EPA on your radio) to a lower number, try 80% to start off. This will definitely lower operating temps on your Viper gear.

lastly, give Profile #5 a try and decrease your brake power to 80% to start off and also disable the dynamic brake option. Check your motor/esc temps after running hard @ the 3, 5 & 7 min marks and go from there...

hope this helps keep us updated,
good luck!

First of all, try to get the latest firmware, instructions on Viper Forum trough Viper Web. If you don't have the latest firmware i do not advice to use boost in such a long straight track.

My personal advice will be (new firmware):

Mode 7
Disable Dynamic Brake
0 neutral brake

Acc Boost
Start RPM: 4000 RPM
Finish RPM: 15000 ~ 16000 RPM
Max. Advance Timing: 30

Top Timing
Slew Rate: 10 ~ 15
Timing: 30

FDR: 6

Wich specific motor is? (brand)
