Charging problem on lipo rx pack
 

I have a venom pro chager and when i plug everthing in it says low voltage. Im not sure what that means cuz the manual sucks! Anyone have any ideas?

When is the last time you charged the lipo?

Well I just figured out that its probally below 3volts. I bought my 2.0 truggy off this guy and Im not sure when he charge it so that anserws the question. Im new to lipos and just learning.

right number of cells on charger?

Yeah I have the cells right. Im charging my other lipo just fine right now. I think he didnt charge it then I ran it 2-3 times with out charging thinking it would be ok but the car just stoped responding so I think I drained it too far. The thing I really dont understand is how to you be sure at what amps to be charging at and also on my charger on the nimh setting it has a volt reading on the lower right hand side as its charging. Is that the volts of the battery u are currently charging or the cut off volts. Im not sure what to set it at?

If your chargin a lipo receiver pack a safe bet is to base it off the mah of the pack itself, if its a 1500 mah pack charge at 1.5 if it's 2200 mah 2.2 amps etc. The volt reading on your charger is most likely the amount of charge the pack is currently at, cut off is only used to program speed controls so the pack isnt taken to low. If your settings are right and it's reading low voltage I'm guessing thats a safeguard telling you the lipo pack has been discharged to low and it's probably unsafe to charge it.

tip: charge lipo pack in ni-mh mode for about a minute or so then start it on li-po mode at proper amp rate ;)

After a day of running and if I'm not gonna run for a couple of weeks, should I put my LiPos in store mode or discharge mode or completely charge them right away on my charger?

What about if I'm gonna run in the next couple of days?

i had my lipo charged fully charged 2 weeks ago and it dint go below 4.30 v i checked it today.

its not a rx pack its a 2c lipo.

Hey thanks guys. I will do all this today and see what happens. Sorry for posting in the wrong section at first:blush:. The volt reading tells what Im at but when your setting up the charger your can set the volts on nimh batteries so what do you set that at?

Use a low charge rate to 'rescue' an over discharged lipo. I use 0.5amp when I have to do this and charge only long enough to get the voltage back up over 6v (for a 2S), then switch to lipo mode and it should charge.

I think you mean amps for NiMh, the volts are handled by the charger unless you're discharging and that should be 0.9v/cell (5.4v for 6 cell pack).

Amp setting depends on the mah, but you can be safe using capacity/1000 so for a 3500mah pach use 3500/1000 = 3.5amps. That will be a good starting point.

Well you can set the amps then next to it you can change the volt setting and it does not tell you in the manual what that is. It's either the cut off or the volts of the battery your charging?

If charger does not ask for the number of cells for charging NiMh, it would need teh pack voltage instead, so this is the pac voltage its asking for - 7.2v for a 6 cell, 8.4v for a 7 cell etc. The charger has to have one or the other charging NiMh or NiCd.


Strange way of doing it, most chargers ask for the number of cells.... but as long as it works.
