TX battery Q's
so we have some of these batteries http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=15009 and we are wondering if we could use them for a tx pack?
if not whats the difference between a tx pack and a normal lipo pack? |
If the TX uses an 8cell type pac you can prob use that as a tx battery voltage wise. I use a 3S 3300mah lipo in my 3PK that originally used a 8 cell NiCd pac.
A real tx lipo is a very low C rate battery, mine is 3C, but I don't think that's a prob. The real prob you're going to have is getting it to fit and dealing with the wiring. |
The fits not an issue (we can get creative, lol). We are just tired of using crappy aa packs that never last long. My brother told me it would be ok, just wanted some other openions.

Then really the only issue is dealing with the big (dumb) wires that HK installs on these lipos.
Myself, I'd open it up and get rid of then and install a smaller wire gauge tx type harness. Have you tried the newer LSD type rechargeable AAs (low self discharge)? Turnigy makes some and I bought 30 or so about a half yr ago. They're much like alkalines in that the only discharge is when you turn them on, there is little self discharge like with ordinary rechargeable NiMhs. The oter good ones are teh ones by Sanyo, called Eneloops. The rechargeable NiMh companies screwed thenselves when they made that last jump in capacity to around 2500-2900mah. This generation of cell seems to work fine for a while and then starts self discharging at upacceptably high rates. I've just had a dozen 2700s do this after 2yrs useage, they were fine up to that point. My 2300s (older generation AAs) were much much better, those lasted over 7years and many, many charges (well into the 1000+ range). |
another vote for the turnigy or other lsd aa's here.
If it's 2.4ghz, no need to get creative just put 8 of those in if it's fm or am and 8 AA put the 3s lipo in it should be fine if it fits |
These LSDs aer great in the newer 4 AA cell radios. I have a few rtr 2.4 radios and use them in those. I have yet to have to charge one after 6months of using it off and on.
