Rookie electronics problems
 

I recently rebuilt my tamiya baja king (electric) to replace the bushings with bearings and am having trouble getting it to work. The steering works just fine but when I give it throttle the motor does nothing. The light on the ESC turns on as usual when I give it throttle. The motor is almost new as it has about 10 bateries through it. When I was in the process of rebuilding I noticed sand in the ESC and opened it up and demped it out. Before I took it apart it worked as normal but the motor got quite hot. What are you thoughts on what I need to do?

Are you sure the wire from the esc is plugged into the rcvr with the right polarity?

I think, the rcrv oly has 3 place to plug things in, one is for the battery, and if I switch the ESC and steering servo the throttle controls the servo. What do you mean polarity?

Both the ESC and Servo have a three wire connector to the receiver, those three wires have to be in the right direction in order to work. On most receivers the black wire on the plug should go to the outside. Some connectors have a tab that only allows you to plug it in one way, but others can be turned around backwards. However I suspect you could have motor trouble if you say that the ESC seems to be acting normal. Try giving it a little push while you are giving it throttle, if it goes or tries to go you may have burned the brushes.

It could be as simple as some debris got in the motor. It is a worthy investment to pick up some motor cleaner and bushing/bearing lube. You may or may not get this motor back to peak performance, but it will keep any new motor you might buy in peak condition longer.
