charging question
hey guys,
i just bought a hyperion 720 and i was wandering if i were to connect the charger to my car battery (1:1 car) how do i make sure that it wouldn't drain out all off it. i guess what im saying is whats the minimum voltage the battery must have for me to be able to start the car and drive home? how long do you reckon i can use the charger? cheers |
Have no idea what is under your car hood battery wise, but if its around 40AH, it'll last a while. Charge a battery and then start the car. I don't think you'll have a prob. To even give you an WAG, we'd need to know what the auto battery specs are and what you're planning to charge, rates, how many batteries and how many times.
If the auto batt is in such bad shape that a single charge for an RC battery drains it and prevents you from starting, you need a new battery. |
Suggest you consider using a separate deep cycle - marine battery.
While a typical car battery in good condition normally can provide many RC charges, modern car batteries do not like being discharged much. The life of the car battery will be reduced. Especially since judging by your signature I assume you will be charging fairly good sized RC batteries. Greatly reduces the chance or worry of being stranded with a dead car battery. |
my car battery under the hood is a dry cell 60AH battery. the battery is about a year old and its now reading 13.2 V after 2 hours rest since i last drove.
on a typical day of racing i would charge maybe 1 6s 5000mah and 3 4s 5000 lipos. and a few receiver battery. if i set the charger to cutoff at 11v, would that be enough juice to start the car? or am i risking it a little? its adjustable so i can pretty much set it to whatever cutoff voltage i want. |
