My son decided to get out of RC for a while, he has a kind of new 3PK with the FASST 2.4GHz Module, can I use my Sprectrum SR3500 DSM 3-Ch Micro Receiver with the Futaba?

Spectrum DSM and Futaba FAAST are not compatible. Generally, none of these 2.4s will intermix and work together.

I'm sort of in the same boat here... no son though (phew!). I've been told two different Spektrum options, SPM1014 and SPM1015. I think they are both the Spektrum "pro" series module and receiver but I think the SPM1015 is the HRS module (which I've also been told will NOT work with the SR3500 micro receiver in the HRS mode). If anyone can verify or debunk me I'd appreciate the info.

The HRS Module will not work with any SR3000, SR3001, SR3500 or SR300 in any mode. It's for HRS only.

With all the money these companies put into developing their respective 2.4Ghz systems, why would these companies make them or let them be compatible with each other? These are all covered by diff patents and the encoding/decoding signal technology is different enough that they can't be interchanged, using basically a cheaper diff brand rcvr with another brand's 2.4 TX.

I think some of the Losi RTR rcvrs will work with Spectrum, but Spectrum made them for Losi to begin with IIRC. Futaba went out of their way to make sure they didn't do that with their rebadged rtr 2.4Ghz systems.

HK has apparently developed what it calls an 'orange' rcvr deliberately to work with FAAST, ignoring any patent infringement. They're less than 1/2 the cost of a real FAAST rcvr. Be interesting to see who they copy next, Spectrum? Also will be interesting to see what Futaba does.
