Matched cells?
Some lipo suppliers claim to use matched cells in their packs. What does this actually mean? Do they actually test each individual cell for capacity and performance and put like cells together? Or do they just check the voltage and start the packs out with all the cells having the same voltage? I am just wondering if this is truly a quality added feature.

When you're talking about matched lipo cells, they're generally matched on IR - internal resistance and capacity so you have a battery with cells that discharge at almost the same voltage. If you've not had a permium lipo from TP, Hyperion, Neuenergy or someone like them, you haven't really experienced it.
I use Neuenergy lipos and have some Turnigy's as well, and there is a diff. The Neuenergy cells rarely get more them 2 or 3 mv diff during discharge and IR has not changed since I've had them. The Turnigys cell imbalance is usually more than 10mv and my oldest one has started showing an increase in IR. Your call on whether it is worth the diff. Turnigy's have gotten so much better in teh last few years its like day and night diff with them. If they could QC the low voltage cells and wiring probs, they'd be very strong competition fo the premium lipos. |
