Default formula for lipo C rating for motor/esc

I have seen a formula somewhere to figure out what c rating you need in your Lipo.
I have been running 2s Zippy 5000mah 30c in heats and Fantom 5200 50c in the main with a Tekin RS/Speed Passion 8.5 in an SC10. Just ordered a RS Pro/8.5 combo. Just wondering if a Promatch 5200 25c will work or if the electronics will be happier with a 40+ C rating.

How many amps does your speedo draw?
a 5200 50c lipo can discharge 260 amps.....
a 5200 25c lipo can discharge 130 amps.....
a 5200 40c lipo can discharge 208 amps.....

5200=5200mah 5200/1000=5.2
5.2 x 50 (c) = 260 (amps)

^^^ Thats all I've seen.

If you run a data recorder, you can tell what the setup is really drawing and give it a healthy margin. You can also tell a lot about your lipos and whether their rating is realistic or not.

Or if you're pretty good at the track, raise the C rate until you don't see your lap times drop anymore.
