Ok, so I reset the failsafe settings. Definately done right, so we'll see what happens. But then sitting there on the bench the throttle gave a little squirt and the steering had a little left/right throw. Hmmm.......

Also once set up, in neutral, the LED is flashing red. The manual says in the neutral range there should be no LED's at all. Red when accelerating and Green when it is reaching the end point. It does say red flashes when braking, so I thought it might have something to do with drag brake. Turned that off (setting 1), but still flashes. When braking, I get a solid red LED.

It seemed to drive ok this afternoon (apart from my one runaway). I just want to make sure these LED flashes are ok.

Cheers
Ian
I could be wrong, but I believe it flashes red in neutral to signify that the esc is "blinky compliant" ?

Cheers
Rob.

Good point. I think this ESC came out before the 'Blinky' rules, so they may have added the neutral blinking on a later release.

Cheers

Yes correct. Your using a Justock esc that is blinky mode only. The flashing red is only stating the esc in in blinky mode.

I'm thinking of buying a justock esc for a second F104ver.II with 21.5T motor, but what about that brake issue, why would you need brakes?
I never use my brakes at the track, that will set your laptimes back.

Believe it or not, with programmable braking you can reduce your lap time. This is layout, car type and traction dependent. Every time I go to a new track or our club puts down a new layout I am programming my braking. I run on-road carpet in WGT and VTA.

Hah, most of our top F1 guys all use brakes. I use it in my F104v2 also but its set very light so the rear end doesn't come around.

Last wknd we had our first tamiyacup race and we are running our F1 cars with a 18T tamiya sensorless brushless motor with a boosted esc, if we would use brakes then we would loose a lot of laptime.
I had the fastest laptime of that day and i was even 0.3s faster then touring guys from our club with a modified motor.
When i started to race i did use brakes but then i saw the super fast guys didn't use the brakes at all, so i started to train without using the brakes and my laptimes were a lot faster then before.
The only brake i'm using is drag brake, and even that isn't set higher then 10%.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that i'm a better driver but driving without brakes gives you faster laptimes and less heat at the motor and esc.

But all this is something a little off topic, but i just wanted to point out my personal feeling.

There is NO brake issue with the Justock .. download the latest firmware package from Hobbywing, install/reinstall "508 No Timing" from that package(USB Link Version 3.2_121204) and you will have more than enough brakes.

+1 the new upgraded software actually gives too much brakes now. I turned them down a little. It was a big change the first time I hit the brakes, wasn't expecting to lock up.

In case anyone is curious, it ended up running perfectly fine with a Futaba A.M. radio from the 80's

Ok, am I really stupid or missing something here. Trying to download the USB Link software, and I seem to manage to download the .RAR file, but then it asks me to "unpack the RAR file". What does that mean. The 5.40MB file is there. I just can't open it anyway...... Help!

Ok, Got all that sorted. Now when I hook up the Program Box and click on the Firmware Upgrade, I don't see the 508 No Timing, or the Version 3.2 121204.

My hardware vrsion says HW310 V1.0, with software version V1.11_120331_V3, or I can change it to V1.08_120504. They're the only 2 options I get . Help again please

Edit- The USB Link I downloaded was 3.2 121204

There are a couple of stages with the HW software - you are at the stage of updating the LCD programmer. You need to update it to 120504 - NEVER xxxx_v3 for a Justock or V2/V2.1 ESC.

Once you have updated the LCD programmer, you will be able to switch over to the ESC and you will find the 508 in the dropdown. Check that the software database is listed as 121204, because that is what the latest version of 508 comes from.
