So a booster isnt absolutely necessary with these justocks? Im thinking of buying another one for 13.5t/17.5t 1/12th 1S.

I run the XR10 Justock in 17.5 1/12 no booster and it works perfect. Servo seems just fine too.
I'm testing it in a 1/10 13.5 WGT this weekend with no booster as well.

These so far have been excellent for the price point.

I will let you guys know about a problem I had a few weeks ago with a JustStock and no booster. I was running oval, 17.5 1 cell. The JustStock is the spec esc. I have run this combo for about a year and this started. On corner exit, the car would continue to turn left after about 3 minutes of running. It would straighten out if I let off of the trigger. I run a Spektrum system and I found out they like at least 3.5 volts to the receiver. On a bench test with a Thor chassis dyno I discovered that the voltage at the receiver would drop about a half volt when the trigger was pulled. Without a booster you are looking at battery voltage. At 40 laps the battery is down to just under 4 volts so you can see where I ran into the issue. What was happening was receiver brown out. The esc still works but the signals from the receiver can go away briefly. I will now run a booster.

I also had problems with my car not turning properly in some corners running a XR-10 without a booster. I also had much slower starts than I am acustom to at the start of the mains. I got the HW booster and the problem was solved. Yes you can run the HW Just stock and XR-10 without a booster but after awhile you notice something is just a little off. A 24.00 booster is not that much to pay to keep the speed in the servo and AMB lap counter!

I ordered a couple of the 5V output boosters from Hobbyking. I've seen them used very successfully, just need to be soldered and shrink wrapped.

Son wants to run 4wd buggy. Will this ESC work well enough in a 4wd with a 10.5 or 13.5?

According to HW specifications, you can go as low as 11.5. I haven't tried anything hotter than a 17.5 though.

Those are low amperage units and you may still have issues with some of the newer receivers that want 5v. The Novak and Hobbywing boosters produce 6v and 3a.
Plus buy several, they fail at the worst time.

The combo I bought not too long ago came with the sensored wire, not sure about the ESC by itself.

The specs on the Justock say 2S->3S.

Has anyone actually run this ESC on 3S? Do you need an external BEC to keep the ESC from overheating on 3S?
