Posted this in the electronics section but maybe I'll get better response here because it after all is in my Losi 8ight 1.5 ...

I just got the Vortex VDS-2015 for steering and am debating putting my Hitec aside for the Vortex VDS-1007 for throttle. I haven't ran it at the track yet but ran a tank in my front yard. The quality seems really great over all.

Anyone have experience with these servos? Or know the Longevity?

i own the, blue sticker orion servo that i use for my throttle on my truggy but i did use it on my buggy its not a bad servo at all it should last fine on a 1/8 buggy for the steering. it has a heatsink around it and uses alum gears i believe.

as long as you dont over due your epa it should last just fine.

I have a VDS-1410 for steering and a 1007 for throttle in my 8ight EU, They've been in my various 8ights for more than a year now and still going strong, the steering servo has developed a minuscule amount of slop, but nothing serious. they are fast as lightning and strong as feck. I like them.

I don't think the 1007 is strong enough for the braking aspect of it. The 2015 is a great throttle/brake servo. I don't think you need .07 for a nitro throttle. The 1409 works ok, but I still prefer the extra torque from the 2015. I run a 1409 for steering and a 2015 for throttle.

Edit: the 2015 is overkill power wise and a little too slow for steering.

You think the 2015 is to slow for steering? Or could it just be your driving style? I think that the 2015 is the perfect speed because its quick but not twitchy quick if you know what I mean.

I'm currently running a hitec hs-625mg (76oz/.18) for my throttle and I figured a 1007 would fit good. You think another 2015 would be the one to go with? I found them on e to the bay for $89 so it would be cheaper than the $105 for the 1007.

I think .15 is too slow for steering yes (I can't drive a car with slow steering). The .09's are not twitchy and can save you from a bobble/collision/pipe with a fast correction. The 2015 for throttle and the 1409 for steering is the perfect combo. If you are willing to learn to steer with a .09 (or faster) servo, you will become a better driver in my opinion.

hm, I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. and if i dont like it could always move it to the throttle.

just my 2 cents, i've been running Savox = orion for the last 2 seasons on my buggy, truggy and 1/10 onroad.

for 1/8th buggy/truggy steering, i use the savos 1256 = orion 2015 and its great so far, the torque is amazing and will make your heaviest truck snap.

if you find it a bit slow to your liking, add more steering Expo in your TX, i was used to .10s steering servos and when i first put the 1256, i felt it was slower so i run at +35% steering expo. now its much faster and reacts alot better to your inputs.

your best set-up for both buggy and truggy is 1256 = 2015 steering and 1258 = 1409 (not same specs but close) for throttle.

1258 is 12Kgs and 0.08s
1409 is 14Kgs and 0.09s

and if you think 12-14Kgs aren't enough for all your break need, try them first as i ran once a 8 Kgs servo in my STRR and i had enough brake.

So youre claiming you can speed up the transit time of the servo with expo? I didnt know that was possible:confused:

well, you are not speeding the servo. the servo will always stay at .15s but when you punch up the expo% on your TX, you increase the sensitivity of the servo's reaction to your inputs = faster servo. to really feel it, try significant amount do not try 5% as you will not feel it in a buggy. try 0 and then change to +40% and drive it on the track, you will notice the steering changes.

Hey whats up. Ok, interesting. I have only used negative expo for steering on my tc.

same idea but the other way around :)

I bumped up the expo to +50 and ran at the track. really couldn't tell much difference.

However the servo is still operating perfect. Had a hard hit into a chain link fence too haha

well i know, i feel the diffrence when i have a slow servo and turn up the expo by just a little bit . and i have a pretty fast throttle servo and when i set the expo at -2 or so i could tell it wasnt reacting as fast.

I use a 1409 for steering and a 2015 for throttle for a few gallons now...no complaints.
