Life Pack Break In
Going with my first life battery for my remote (protec). Do you need to do a break in process for these life batteries. If so what procedure do you follow.
Do they need to be balanced every time or does my charger do it automatically. I have the Dynamite passport ultra that charges everything. I hope its a direct fit for the battery I chose not having to purchase a seperate balance board. Thanks |

Just do like protec manual says. NOTE: Brand new LiFePO4 batteries have been found to fail prematurely if they are deep discharged below 33% capacity too early. A break-in period of 20 cycles is currently recommended. While testing has shown that this battery can be charged at up to 3C rates, it recommended that this battery not be charged at rates higher than 1C to maximize the lifespan of the battery. Additionally, LiFe batteries should not be discharged below 2.5V per cell to avoid pre-mature failure and maximize battery life span. |
ive been running my protek life 2 runs in 1/8 buggy, than charging, 10 cycles now...really not a big deal, just keep bumpin up, or get 2 like i did..lol

So what is everyone using to check the voltage to see how much life is still in the battery.
I am asumming that since I am using this for my radio that my radio will tell me the voltage just like it does for nimh when it gets low. So would nimh be the same as life in regards to when to charge. I never let my nimh pack go under 10 volts. |
So they are like lipo packs. They need a few cycles before they start performing. I always have 2 packs for whatever it is that I'm running. 2 for each car 2 for the remote and 2 for the starter box. You never know when one might fail.

You will notice easily when they are empty, their power output drops off dramatically at around 2.8v and they show no more useable capacity under heavy discharge
I ran a few discharge / charge cycles through my Maxamps 1050mah packs down to 2.5v to see how they discharged Even though they suggest they can be taken down to 2.0v I found no point using them after they drop below 2.8v At a 50c discharge their curve is fairly straight at 3.3v / cell until they lose around 80% of their capacity Cheers |
