JR 9100s issues

Has anyone else had back luck with the 9100s? I have a 2 race old one that is already acting alittle funny. It won't hold a load too good the hotter it gets. I am running this on a losi truggy 2.0 and its got plenty of throttle left after it hits the endpoint(like .5 cm). The breaks buzz the servo pretty good but it never acts up on the breaks just like on the straight when i'm hold full throttle. I use rubber band for throttle return and the rubber band BARELY pulls the throttle closed when I turn the power off at WOT. Any ideas? Maybe i need to adjust my breaks better so the servo doesn't buzz too much? Some people love them and some hate them. I have a 9100T that is coming back from JR soon. I'll prolly put that one at throttle and won't have any trouble with it.

I am going to consider going lipo at some point so what are the hitec high voltage to get? What battery and what charger for the losi truggy?

not sure about yours, but my jr 9100s is twitching now. JR shake? On top of it horizon hobby takes forever to get a hold of...

I have had nothing but trouble out my JR 9100 series servos. I have sent them back so many times over the past 2 years (3times)that they have said I no longer have warranty. This season I switched to Hitec 7940th for throttle and its awesome. Not a single hickup so far and I have had a 5955tg that has been in regular use for 3 years now that still works perfectly.

On a second note run a LIFE pack don't go lipo. IMO LIFE is better and much safer.

It's amazing how some people have issues and some have none what so ever. I've been running JR servos for the past 2yrs with no issues what so ever. I run 9100s & 9100t without so much as a glitch. Hope I didn't just jinx myself :D.

I too run JR 9100 servos in my buggy. I've been using a 9100s for steering and a 9100t for the throttle (yes I know the S & T don't stand for steering and throttle). These servos have been in my Losi 8IGHT since I built it for the 2008 racing season.

During the 2009 season the steering servo began getting some play in it. Upon investigating I realized the servo saver was built way too tight from the Losi factory and it never really protected the serve as it should have. I corrected this by replacing the saver with new parts and building it myself.

Now in the 2010 racing season my steering servo has, as expected, gotten worse. It's now to the point where the steering jitters constantly, with the front wheels shaking back and forth rapidly, whenever you pick the vehicle up off the ground. I decided to replace it with a second 9100t rather than going with another 9100s. The T has plenty of speed and a stronger gearing so hopefully it'll hold up better.

I don't blame the JR servo in this case as my servo saver was not set properly from the factory and it took me an entire year to realize it. My existing 9100t throttle servo has been flawless and still has zero play.

Thats what i hear. Sometimes you will get a 9100s to last a year and sometimes you'll get one that last a race. The 9100T has been good to me. The S hasn't.

I run all JR 9100 HVS servos and had some recent bad luck. Motors went on 3 of them after a while. Just sent them back last week, they turned them around very quickly.

Got them back yesterday and they didnt repair any of the Servos as they were burned up due to high current pull and or heat. This was not covered under warrenty and they were shipped back as "not cost effective to repair"

I run Losi products which are known to be a bit harder on throttle servos but who knows.

Talk about crazy... $600 worth of servos and no customer service.

I've never had problems with JR servos, except when I ran one with a LIPO. I suspect Horizion is having them made somewhere else. They used to be the industry standard for quality and performance. :weird:

mine have a severe case of the twitches.....not running JR anymore....

I haven't had any issues with JR's/horizon's warranty. They will keep sending you servos as long as your warranty period isn't up. However its annoying to get a new servo and it last one race and you know your endpoints are setup correctly.

Does the hitec 7940 last? I'm thinking of just putting a torque servo(9100T or 7955 or 7950) at throttle but don't want to lose the speed. Sick of waiting on servos tho.

I have had quite a few issues with the 9100S servos. 3 of the 4 I have had twitched right out of the package. The 4th would not return to center. I still run the 9100T with no issues but have replaced the S with a probably 2 year old 9000T and have no issues...

yeah i've got a new t coming from jr this week and a 2 race old t at steering now. I'm thinking of putting the one at steering now at throttle and putting the new one at steering. I think the torque servo would last alot longer. More stress on the gears and not the motor like a speed servo. Can you notice a speed difference since putting a T at the throttle?

Second choice is to get the new T and sell it along with the 2 race old T. Then send the S back and sell the new one they send me and get hitec 7940 and 7950 and run them on lipo.

JamminSP 08-03-2010 07:42 PM

I have noticed a difference in speed. I believe the older 9000T is even a little slower than the 9100T. But the added torque on brake outweighs the loss in speed to me.

drewmugx5t 08-03-2010 09:12 PM

I use the 7940 with a LIFE pack and it is awesome. It has lasted well so far (since Feb.) seems like the best choice to me.

No sir, JR recently clamped down on servo repairs. I had 3 motors fail and called and they said when motors fail its usually not covered. I have another 4 of these left so I plan on selling them and going hitec.

I do have a 7940TH or whatever the .06 high speed hitec servo is, and its worked great for the past few weeks. Who knows in the future, but I have heard nothing but good things about their warrenty, customer service and products.

P.S. If anyone is interested in buying some let me know lol
