eZRun 25A issue

I recently installed an eZRun 25A ESC in my RC18T2. It works mostly perfectly, but often times when I am moving forward, brake, reverse for a short time, then try to go forward again, it doesn't move until I either wait a long time or push it. It never does it when I am just trying to go forward from braking or a standstill, only from reverse -> forward. I have observed that when this happens, the ESC will blink both red and green very quickly, and the motor emits a quiet ticking sound at the same rate. I don't think it is a problem with my batteries or motor, because it happens with both my eZRun 7800Kv and my Tacon 4120Kv motors. My batteries are Blue LiPo 1800mAh 20C 2S's which have always balanced perfectly and charge to 8.40V every time with full capacity. Just wondering if this is a documented issue and if there is any fix to it . Thanks

motor maybe??

Your ESC could be having a hard time finding a neutral signal. My EZRun ESCs have never had this problem, but I have seen similar issues with other brands. I would suggest increasing the throttle dead-band adjustment on the ESC, and if that does not work you might try a re-calibration.

Make sure all the connections are good, including solder joints. Any weakness in connections and/or solder joints can contribute to issues like you describe.

At the risk of political incorrectness, this can be an occasional shortcoming of a non sensored brushless system. Especially when it’s rolling backwards and you try to go forward.

Thanks for the help. I'll try recalibrating the ESC and possibly increasing the dead band tomorrow . All the connections seem to be good and besides this problem it runs exceptionally well. Also, I don't think it's because it's sensorless - the problem is not cogging, I actually don't think the motor is even attempting to move.

I had the same issue with an EzRun 25A / 7800 unit I bought for my mini-t

The ESC would light up and appear to be calibrating correctly, however, I could never get the motor to spin. I only heard very very faint ticks or beeps, which I never thought was correct. After several attempts at changing batteries, connectors, etc. I figured that the ESC was bad.

Nitrorcx.com (where I got mine from) apparently agreed with me because they sent me a completely new combo. That one works great and I have no issues at all.

The beeping noise is quite audible, so if yours is very quiet or just "ticking" then my guess is your ESC is toast.

Huh, mine normally works except for the conditions I described, but I guess I'll try contacting HobbyPartz (same as NitroRCX) and see what they say...

D'oh...reading owns me

Yeah...mine never worked from the start. But the blinking lights and wierd-o noise (ticking...) was consistant with what mine was doing.

Good luck...I was really nervous at the thought of sending mine back to HK. Nitrorcx was cool about it and sent me a replacement...

I just got off with customer support which basically told me I could send it back and they'd replace it. I was kinda hoping I could keep my partially working one , but I guess they're too smart for that. Anyway, I'll keep it for now because it still works for the most part and I want to keep using my car. It seems like the Hobbywing warranty does not concern them (their warranty is something like 260 days after the date of production ), which is good.

How did you solve this issue? Just bought 1 but when installed, facing exactly the same thing. Flashing green LED

Truthfully, I think it just went away after a while. Not sure if it'll help, but it definitely won't hurt to recalibrate with your transmitter.

Ah, nice to know it went away for yours. Have just recalibrate with full EPA too :(. It just wont move forward after a reverse. Mind I ask how long did it take to go away?

Any change in transmitter/receiver? What was the radio when u had this? Mine is the stock RC18t2 (XP3-SS)

I can't give you an exact time when it went away (this was almost a year ago now), but I don't think it took long. If you're still having trouble, I'd send it back to wherever you got it. My Tx/Rx system is the FlySky GT-3 2.4GHz
