question on lipos for starter box

I know you can use lipo batts in a starter box. But which ones? And what all would I need? I have a Onyx 230 charger. Does anything certain need to be done to the starter box? I got a deal on my charger, it came with a Blinky balancer. I have no idea on this stuff and just thought if I got into Lipo one day I will know what to get. My starter box is for 1/8 scale. I am using 2 6 cell nimh stick packs now.

3s lipos work great in a starter box. You don't need anything great, I'm currently using 1800 mAh 20c lipos in mine and it lasts a whole race day without going below half charge. The weight reduction is awesome.

This is what is typically used in a starter box -

The only thing is you need to be aware of the voltage during its use so you don't wind up using it too much and overdischarging it. Some seem to be able to monitor lipo voltage well enough omn their own, some seem to need something that alerts them that the voltage is getting low liike a low voltage alarm like you see on eBay.

If you want to use your Onyx 230 charger you will need to stick to a 3s lipo like Miller Time mentioned. The 230 won't charge the 4s Duster is referring to.

Optionally you could use two 2s batts and charge them separately to get a 4s setup.

so use one 3s or two?

I've had no problems using a single 3s lipo. I actually used that in a blue OFNA box to start a new engine during break in, so it should provide plenty of power.
